| Trail difficulty: | 3/10. A few tight switchbacks, but generally mild. | |
| Location: | Breckenridge. | |
| Directions: | Take I-70 to Frisco. Go south on Colorado 9 to Breckenridge. There is a stoplight in the middle of town, at Main St. and Ski hill Road. Turn right and to head west on Ski Hill Road, then left onto Park Avenue (it is unmarked, but it should be the first stoplight). Make a right onto Village Road. As you approach the Beaver Run Resort the road departs to the left, out of the back of the parking lot is a sign that says "Peak 8" (although this sign is often missing). It travels under the ski left and behind the resort, then heads south. Keep in mind these are private roads, so be prepared to be kindly reminded by the Breckenridge people. |
When I went up there, the top was still covered under three feet of snow. I'm hoping to head up there again sometime to make it all the way to the top (hey, I've got a cool truck, and getting a cool truck stuck is not cool!). These are the three pictures I have as of now. Sorry for the low quality, I was using the wrong speed of film. AGH!
Basically Peak 10 is a service road. You pass by the ski restaurant and by/under
many ski lifts. When it's ski season, you wouldn't even know this
road existed!
This is looking down on the town of Breckenridge from up near Peak 10. Most of the people in that town don't even know this road exists.

This is looking at the very peak of the mountain. No one ski's up there!
This is one of the side trips. Keep in mind most of the roads in that area are privately owned by the Government, and leased out to Breckenridge. You risk getting yelled at (or at least politely reminded) that they are private roads should you travel to choose them. Thats me in the picture. I'm 6'7", so that is one huge pile of snow! I'm told that the snow at the bottom of the pile is five years old.
