Well I havent heard back from the shop that was supposed to paint the truck in quite a while, so I started shopping around again. Found a shop that might be able to do it, but to save money I'm going to do a lot of the sanding and prep work on it myself.
I'm determined to get this thing show-ready :).
So, who wants to help me sand down the truck? :)

Ooh, sounds like an extremely fun time. I remember doing this on the bug we rebuilt back in high school. Almost 2 months every day before we got it paintable.

Sanding????????

Haven't you ever heard of commercial grade aircraft paint remover?? Put a little of that on there and go drink a beer and get the garden hose and thats it... not even 15 minutes...

being a newer truck and it's base coat i really think you should water sand it with 500 grit youll like the finish.

what is water sanding? Keep in mind I'm kind of a newbie to this all, I was going to ask the body shop about how to do it properly, we'll see what they say. The truck is getting a whole repaint.

Gotta find a compressor/dual action sander. That'll save weeks of sore arms/shoulders.

Here's a picture of the aircraft stripper working on the hood of my Jeep. Smelling that stuff found me attracted to the next door neighbors dog.

im not going to lie but hand sanding is better and takes longer . second wet sanding is when you use a wet or dry sand paper thats what its called, and you use a 3m sqeegie ( that you can get a paint store ) as a block and to check for orange peel. it's a chore and you keep it wet when you sand. a daul action sander in the hands of the wrong person will make you cry after its painted it's easy to make a mess. or if you have a air jitter bug that will work very well and save time.

Wow that aircraft stripper looks like some hard-core stuff! LOL. Well I'm probably going to talk to the shop this weekend, find out how they do it and how they recommend others do it... I'd rather take more time and make it right, rather then hurry it and regret it later.

We only used the aircraft stipper on the hood and grill, because the they were in such bad shape, we took them down to bare medal and started from scratch.

the other way is use 220 grit paper and sand away it's cheap and fast.

yeah I was thinking somewhere around 220... By the way, I have a small palm-sized electric sander, would I be correct in assuming that this shouldn't be used for the truck, or is this safe? its not like a belt sander, its got a soft "pad" that the sandpaper goes on and it just vibrates, sanding. its a porter cable I think.

i only use them when i do bodywork, but they are very helpful.
