View Full Version : Stupid inspector

So we had an inspector over to the house today to inspect a new furnace we had installed. There were a couple issues the furnace guys will fix, but there's one expensive one I get screwed on. Right now the furnace is in a closit type area with closit bifold doors. Apparently, Wesminster/Broomfield are very picky about this sort of thing. So I need to install a new door. This must be a double door that is weather sealed so no gas and/or water can escape. One door can have a handle, the other must have top and bottom latches to the door frame. What I pain in the butt. I'm afraid of getting quotes on this one. AHHhhhh
Should have never let the inspector come out.

I didn't know that was an option. The furnace guys just said to do it. I'm not stupid, just new at this. The permit was already pulled.
I had mine replaced in Westy a few years ago, and didn't get a permit, nor did I call the inspector.
No problems then, nor when I sold the house last year.
It shouldn't really be that bad though.
Didn't you say you worked at McGuckin? If you didn't go super fancy with the doors, they should run you around $30 or so each. Then it's just a matter of cutting and installing them.
I don't know exact figures on all of the extras, but I couldn't see the whole project being much more than $100-$120.

I suppose I could do it myself but does anyone know how I would go about getting the exact requirements that meet the building codes?
Call the same number you did to set up the inspection. They have to have the laws documented, and just ask them to send you over a copy.

i go through this every day on water heater replacements.
it's fun trying to explain to a customer that they have to do some major modding to their house ,venting system or chimney because we are replacing something that has been there for years working just fine.
it's tempting to go without the inspection but be careful. if you go to sell the house the Realtors and inspectors are looking for the inspection stickers saying it's been approved. if you don't have it you may be screwed.
