Had a great time, the trail had a bit of snow which made the first obstacle a bit tough to get over and a bit nerve racking as well. We did not do Crystal Mountain since it is rated much more difficult than Moody Hill.

I wish I didn't have to work yesterday, it looks like a fun trail
Although, I don't think my bald MTR's (turned racing slicks) would've been good on the snowy-slushy-icy-muddy hills :(

Stephen in the red unlimited had a great wheel stand at the top of the quarry, and was on two tires at one point, both of the unlimiteds did amazing on the top part of the quarry obstacle!

It was fun, the snow was a intimidating at first, especially since I don't have lockers! front range definitely wants to do a summer run there and get crystal mountain in as well, so next time for sure!

Yup, but sometimes lockers can actually make it worse if the hill is also off camber. If all four tires are spinning, gravity will not be friendly to you. If one tire in the front & one in the rear are the only tires spinning, the vehicle will most likely not gravitate towards the off camber (low side) because the non spinning tires will most likely stay in the track they were originally in. The downside is the vehicle doesn't get enough traction to get up the slick stuff, the upside is, the vehicle will not slide sideways. It can be a catch 22 - 6 of this, a half a dozen of the other. That didn't stop me from getting lockers though :D
I've been in icy-snowy "uphill, off-camber" situations & it was kinda scary when my truck would go towards the edge/drop off. ;) All that said, I will always prefer a locker or two vs open diffs for wheeling purposes :)
I hope to get out a bunch more starting next spring than I did this crappy year to that trail & a bunch of others I have never been to.

So A.J. how did your rig do on the quarry? Do you think I could have made it? It just looks a bit narrow. Sorry I did not make it.

Whether I have new tires or not, I'd like to have a Chinamans run on 11/26, it's the Saturday after Thanksgiving ;)

If I can find or borrow a trailer I might be in for that.

I didn't attempt the quarry, if I was locked in at least the rear I definitely would have given it a shot, it is almost like sand in there....and the exit is very steep!

Lockers would have been amazing, but I can definitely see what you mean about the sliding part....that was my whole worry about the first obstacle since it was sloped downwards...I think the thing that help me was airing down, and having the new tires, my old bfg at's were awful in the snow!

That's why it would be sooooo good to have selectable lockers. Some company should realize us po' fok can't buy whats out there and make a selectable that we could afford. They would sell all they could make.

I would love an electic or air locker but 800 bucks and up is kinda ridiculous....if a company could make an affordable one I would be all over it!

Bad thing is I'll be in L.A. with grandkids & daughter in law, meet my son there & drive to Texas. Gonna be a long trip, but hopefully we will get some hogs, maybe deer too.

Man that top part does look scary to say the least! Not sure if I would try it or not.

It is definitely very intimidating looking.....the two jeeps crawled right up it, surprisingly they struggled more for traction on the lower section.

Those long wheel base Rubi's do well in places like that. Especially if they flip the switches for both lockers.:glasses10:
