View Full Version : What a fun afternoon?

Spent the last 5 hours putting together a television stand for my parents. I told them to go buy a nice oak one and have it delivered. But no, my dad goes out and buys one that has to be put together and then I got suckered into doing it. One thing I confirmed this afternoon is that I'm retarded when it comes to using tools. I also used a lot of foul language, which caused the dog and cats to go hide.
I will say this, my parents have been crapped on for the last month. First the heater went out and had to be replaced right before Christmas, the television stopped working on New Year's Eve (new one coming tomorrow), and dad called and said the power steering went out on the Grand Cherokee on the way to the airport yesterday. I'm waiting to see what's next.

:(
That ain't fun. But they say things come in threes....your parents are good to go for awhile. :)
I know what you are talking about with the Entertainment Center. My mom bought a Computer Desk that was the same way. 6hrs later and a few beers it was done. Never again!

I must be twisted, I rather enjoy assembling cheap furniture. I guess it comes from leaving it behind everytime I move and starting over. LOL...
I remember those days.
I worked at Wards through High School, and part of college, and put together just about any TV stand, Entertainment Center, Table/Chair set, and anything else that was sold 'Ready To Assemble'. Hated it then, and still do. Although it is quite a bit easier now than it was then with my shelf bracket hammers, and dull scissor pliers, and my personal favorite was the free giveaway screwdriver that we never could find 1 screw to fit it.
The worst thing about assembling that kind of stuff is getting about half-way through (or further) and realizing you have something on the wrong side, backwards, upside down, etc. ARGH. :D Otherwise, I kind of enjoy it too...

Someone gets paid good money to figure out how to fit those entertainment centers into pizza sized boxes.....Lets all take a moment to appreciate engineers........Now, i actually kinda lke putting these things together too....and aslong as they dont buckle as soon as i throw all my stuff on them, im satisfied. But i also take the interior of my truck completly apart and out, then put it back together when i cant think of anything else to do...
When i dropped my new TV, and cracked it ( the housing, not the screen), i duct taped it back together, and it still works...
