Hey guys,
It's been a while since I logged in or checked out the site. I was just wondering if anyone has information on swapping a modern engine/tranny into my 76 F150? I want better gas mileage and driveability without sacrificing too much power. Another option might be a feul injection conversion for my 460. I look forward to your ideas.

^^ that would make a good swap. You can pretty much swap out any "modern" engine into your truck if you are willing to go through all the trouble of dealing with the various sensors and stuff that goes along with it. If your going the junk yard route, take the computer and hopefully the entire wiring harness as you never know what you will need from it. Also, something to keep in mind is the hassle of having to adapt some of the sensors or parts that simply arent there on your truck, but have to be there in order for the computer to function properly. The one that comes to mind is the ABS sensor, which is a sprocket-like plate that is on the hub (or thereabouts) on newer trucks. You would have to either buy an adapter or make one fit and thats just one of the problems you may encounter. I'm not trying to discourage you from doing it, it would be a cool project, but if its your daily driver, just know it probably isn't a one-weekend project.
Another idea, like you stated, might be an aftermarket fuel injection set-up. It'd have its own computer and wouldn't go hay-wire when it looks for the input from the new trucks vibrating seat heaters and in-dash sat-nav/espresso maker and finds they arent there. Just my two cents.

There are some new stand-alone EFI conversions out now that might go well for better economy, if there is any such thing for a 460.

Hey I saw a guy that swapped a corvette engine into an old classic 1930's Ford of some kind, so anything can be done with the right amount of money and time :).

Thanks for the responses. I will give this a lot more thought and start looking into the after market. Looks like time spent up front learning will save time money and frustration if and when I do this.

Look on Mustang Monthly's website, they have done tons of modern swaps into classic Mustangs. Plenty of "how-to"s also.

While were just tossing around ideas, check this one out:

If I were to win the lottery or have a long lost, rich aunt die and leave me her millions, this is what I would put in the little truck I bought to have a quirky little sleeper. at 430 pounds, its probably not much heavier than the four cylinder thats in it now.Lots of good info on the motor.

Haha... Yes, me too! I just saw in one of the Hot Rodder mags that they were building something with this motor in it... VERY COOL! I personally don't cotton anything computer controlled, too hard to track down what's broke!
