I've got the 315-70/17 BFG AT-KO's and I love em. Great on the road, havent tested em off-road yet though.
Too bad you don't have 17" rims or you could buy Hummer tires like I did, or buy my old tires when I upgrade to 37" tires :).
I've got a set of 17" wheels and tires in my parents garage I'll sell ya cheap, they are the fx4 wheels, then you could get the hummer tires for cheap on ebay like I did :).

I've been extremely happy with the Pro Comp ATs I got from 4WP.

Next time I need tires though, I think I'm going to go with High Tech Retreading.

I've had a couple sets of BFG - ALL TERRIANS and they were a good tire.

The only thing I didn't like about my BFGs was that they wore so fast. They only lasted about 35,000 with religious rotation every 3000 miles.

I agree. I love the BFG AT-KO tires but they do wear fast. Fast enough that I remove my 33" tires in the winter and ride around on cheaper 31s.

I've heard that the truxus mud terrains are great on and off road, and they aren't too terribly expensive.

My neighbor has the Nittos in like 37" or something like that. They look really good. I don't know how they do off road though-- he is a street queen.
I would go for the bfg

I put a set of those on my wifes Bronco a few months back. I love 'em & she loves 'em. She hates driving in the snow. We had BFG A/T's before that & they were a great tire, I wanted to try something different on there for her. With the multi stage lugs & siping, that tire works GREAT in the snow & ice. She fells more in control now. No noise & they balanced up great. To tell you the truth, they're a lot smoother on the highway than the BFG's ever were. First time it snowed here, I could not believe how great those tires were. If they made 'em in 37's or 38's, That would be my next set on the Ranger.

But, I will say this, they're a soft tire (that's what helps makes 'em grab) so I don't expect to get more than 20-25k out of 'em at best. If you're looking for long lasting tires, I wouldn't recommend those. When spring comes around, I'll put a set of cheapie Walmart A/T's on the other wheels & run those for the summer.

On the STS, if you plan doing any mudding, point blank..............They suck. I like the BFG's but don't know anything about the Nitto's.

The Procomp A/T's get good reviews & they have a 50,000 mile treadwear warranty & Procomp tires are made by BFG (bfg & michelin are in bed together)

i all depends on where you drive most. off or on road. that is the question i would ask. i ahve to agree to go with the longer lasting tire. more bang for your buck.

Thanks all for your input. I have pair of pro comp AT right now and they have been a good tire. Just looking at different kinds of tires. Its come down to either BFG or pro comps. Im looking for a long lasting tire, that can be also used off road. I mainly drive on the streets.

Thanks all,

Rhino,

How long have your pro comp mud tires lasted you. Those sound good to me.

My BFG's have been running on bald for six months now and don't seem to be getting any worse. They do well in the snow too. Not bad considering I can see the top of Lincoln's head doing the penny test. They wear too quickly for a truck as heavy as mine though. I'm still trying to find a decently aggressive tread design with an "E" load rating.

BFG's are always a good choice. A bit pricy sometimes, but well worth it. I had ProComp AT's on my ol' '87, I was pretty unhappy with those. Biggest problem was cords breaking in the sidewalls after a mere 4,000 miles. Wear was bad too.

:)
I run BFG Mud T/As on my F150, for the last 65,000, and they still got at least 1/2 tread. Got A/Ts on the old ladys(don't let her hear that) 93 Explorer now with around 40,000. Still in good shape. BFGs are a little noisey , but hey , it ain't a caddy.
Just got a 94 Explorer sport 4x4 , and BFGs are going on it too. :)
ProComps are good too. Pretty close to the BFG's.

I had Pro-Comp All-terrains on my truck a while ago, and wasn't impressed with them. Was constantly having to get them re-balanced and rotated because they couldn't wear right to save their lives.

I have just over 16,000 on my Pro Comps now. I've had them rotated every 3200 miles, and when they were going to re-balance at the 10,000 mark, nothing was needed at all.

Sounds like maybe I got lucky after hearing others' stories, but I'm happy.

I did get one flat, but what do you expect when assholes leave screws in the road? 4WP fixed it under the 50,000 mile warranty, and it's been fine since.
