Time to set a date!
The holiday chaos should be over. There should be plenty of trash to pick up. I should have the Jeep's rear axle swapped. :)
I need to give Brant 10 days notice. I don't know if he will want to meet with us before we go up.
Post up if you can make it.

Would love to, but coming in from California the night before and leaving for London two days later, so my weekend will be packed.

I think I will be able to make it. Do we just do a bit of trail restoration or cleanup? It is around the Georgetown area correct?

Yup, near Georgetown. It's basically just a cleanup thing but if there is anything damaged like signs, new trails made where they shouldn't have been, things like that, we notify the USFS.
Hope to see you there :)

Saxon Mtn starts in Georgetown and ends in Idaho Springs, or vise-versa depending on which way you run it.

So would the easiest way to get there be 70 west?

I dont know if a meeting point had been discussed, if we go with the forest service often we actually meet in Idaho Springs at the Forest Service for a quick shpeal, make sure everyone signs the paperwork, etc...

From the sound of that Traildamage description of the trail it sounds really narrow? Is it really that bad?

Only if you are skeered of heights. We met this guy at the top of the switchbacks.

All the same, we don't have to drive the switchbacks, just the top part. :)

Yup! We get the safety talk this year also.
We'll meet at the Clear Creek Ranger District @ 9:00 AM for the meeting. Wear some sturdy shoes, pants that cover your legs, and bring a pair of work gloves.
The address is:
101 Highway 103
Idaho Springs, Colorado 80452
Last year we had fire bans. This year, the current ban is to the North of I-70. We'll have to keep an eye on conditions through the week.

I couldn't get a good feel for the trail from the page, since I am still new to the western mountains and their trails. I am guessing from that page is that it isn't suited for a stock vehicle? If it was, I could take 3 guys in trade for teaching me off-road skills. I am from the little mountains of the East coast.

stock vehicles can make it through. It's pretty bouncy at some parts and you might hit some things underneath occasionally... and I'm a little nervous about what the water crossing might look like as theres really no way around it and given that snow is still melting up there, could be fairly deep... you might also get some trees "hugging" your vehicle on the sides, but I dont think we've had any real severe damage up there.
I used to take my stock 98 F-150 and my stock 94 explorer (before I souped it up) up there and it made it with no real issues. We've also had fairly stock super duties on the trail before, its not shelf roads like spring creek or anything though not always wide enough for two vehicles either.
Thanks Mike for coordinating and keeping this going!

If Don still needs a seat, he'd be perfect for showing you the ropes. He has wheeled a full size or two. The fact that you have a bump-side is icing on the cake...so long as the brakes are good. :p

My old iron still isn't ready to leave the shop yet, I have a 2000 Durango as my D/D that I was considering taking, but I want to sell it soon and not scrape anything. It has enough issues! ;)
If it was the Bump, I would be there in a heart-beat!

Just so we're all on the same page, I've highlighted in red an important thing because after all, this is a "Work Detail" & we should adhere to USFS work attire for personal safety reasons.

I'm packing a lunch & I'll have a good size cooler with me in case anyone wants to throw their goodies in it.
