My old 78 F150 spun a wheel bearing tonight on my way home. I replaced all of these buggers 2 years ago, and packed them all last summer. I am not sure what happened other than perhaps some crappy grease and maybe I over tightened that side a bit. But regardless, it happened.

Thanks to my step dad and a few RMFTC Members, Hypoid, John and Chuck willing to step up and help. Mike got me back on the road with a good spindle. and I made it home. I cant say it enough to Mike, for all of your help.

I have been thinking about this ordeal a lot on my way home and I do feel there is possible more than just maybe some sloppy work by myself. I don't do sloppy work and never have. I think it is a result of cheap products from when I was at the brake shop. The universal joint and bearings are from the supplier for that company and I have a feeling the quality of products along with their cheap grease didnt help matters any.

I had known about my bad axle universal joint and had already addressed that issue and bought a good Heavy duty joint from CQ. It is sitting on the trans hump waiting to be installed. I will blame myself for not changing THAT already and if I had I wouldn't have run into the issue tonight as I would have found these other issues in my wheel bearings. A lesson learned in being slow at getting things that need done in a timely manner.

Anyways, I hope many of you read this and take into consideration my thoughts because it may save you from being stranded on the side of the road. I am so thankful for being a part of this great club. I hope one day I will be able to return the favor to another member.

I'm afraid its getting to where thats all thats available anymore. A while back my uncle was working on his Ranger and decided he wanted a quality u-joint, so he went through Drivetrain and ordered a brand-named one instead of the usual parts-store type. After paying a premium price and getting it home he opened it and... Proudly stamped on it was "made in china".
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the chinese can't make a good product... But... If it looks like peking-duck, and smells like peking-duck... Its not a double cheeseburger. :)

LOL Ray.

I need to yank a hub off of my Bronco this weekend, thankfully im swapping to 3/4 ton up front and have a spare now. the bearing race actually spun inside the hub as well so ill have to swap that out. Then I can make the haul back to Denver and get Hypoid his parts back. I picked up a new shaft bearing for you also Mike. Had to work this weekend but did get some work done, just ran out of time.
