Hi folks, just joined. I've planned a trail run for Sunday, 1/9/05. Wanna see if anyone wants to join in the fun with us.

It's near Buena Vista. We'll be meeting at the Gunsmoke Truckstop parking lot in Johnson Village at 10:30am on the 9th. If you want to convoy with us from here, we'll be meeting at the McDonalds in Woodland Park at 8:30am.

If you haven't been there, some of the sites rate it around 6-8 (depending on the site). Last year, one of the guys that went with us did it in a stock '99 4 door Blazer but he beat the crap out of his rocker panel on one side. A locker or tight L/S helps but not required. Clearance is your friend

This is all "weather permitting" 'cause if there's a storm that weekend up in the hills, I'm keeping my butt here

Any takers???

If a blazer was beaten, I don't have a prayer.

The 9th is a little early for me, I don't wanna beat the truck up. But I will go to this one when I get the beater jeep!

Alright, it's gonna be tight, but if I get my Explorer back from the shop in time, I still need to get my gears in, then fab up a hitch for my winch on the front, weld on a hitch insert on the mounting plate, and get some pins to secure the sides a little. If that all gets done, then I'm in for sure.
All depends on when my explorer gets done.
I'm hoping. 8)

I'm glad the mountains are getting hammered. (more than they did they did in the last 5 or 6 years anyway) But that little valley there is usually drier than we are in the Springs. I have a buddy that lives in Nathrop so I'll call him & ask the conditions before heading out there. I don't mind the cold, I just don't wanna drive through a blizzard to get there..........That's no fun when you can't see 10 ft in front of you or the road either. :)

Urban, we usually do runs on Saturdays mainly but this one ended up working out better for Sunday only cause on the 8th, I gotta drive to Ft. Collins to fix my sisters POS Grand Am.

Rino, I hope all goes well for ya but don't sweat it, we do runs 1-2 times a month in the winter & 2-4 times in the spring, summer, & fall. You won't miss out. I don't wanna put you in a bind.

CNTRY, come on brother, get that Jeep 8)

Clavos, it was just his rocker panel. It was the small Blazer.........I think they have almost 3 or 4 inches of ground clearance
But yea, don't take a chance if you don't want to. I'd really hate to see someone damage their pride & joy. I wouldn't take my wifes Bronco through there (it's the family car for us) I wanna keep that thing nice. I did take it in Hackett Gulch once before the Hayman fire but that's the last time it went wheeling, 2001. My wife says "I can beat up my truck all I want but I better NEVER take her Bronco on a trail like that again". (she wasn't too happy with me that day)

someday, once I get rid of my buick, I'd like to get a wheelin rig again. I used to have a 94 Explorer I used for off-roading but sold it years ago. While my truck will be capable and everything,m keeping it mainly to the trails I'm fairly sure won't bust my paint job... at least until I start getting a few scratches/dents.

My Dad and I used to do that trail all the time in a stock 72 Scout. It wasn't easy, but I wouldn't say it's that hard. I do remember seeing a few of the longer vehicles having problems though.

Yeah, I like that trail a lot cause it is doable by stock rigs if you don't mind a little rock rash every now & then. On this trail, I can take some of my buddys that don't have their trucks all fixed up but are itching to wheel them. They enjoy the heck out of it.

Tray, when's the last time you were there? They built a new entrance into it a year or two ago, it's called the "Rock Garden" The other two access trails that were used are closed off now. Only one way in, unless you can get through "Carnage" (I sure couldn't) & only one way out. Some pretty tight turns through the boulders, that's where the long trucks might get a slight case of rock rash. They also built a "stairstepper" into the trail. at the top of that, there's a real tight turn to the right with a tree there. I still have tree sap on the bed & the signature dent. There's a bypass around that incase someone might think they'd get high centered or smash their tranny pan or don't wanna mess with the tree or something.

I hope the weather cooperates, I'm lookin' forward to it. C'mooooon Sunday :bounce: :bounce:

well, this big storm that's coming through is supposed to dump some serious amounts of snow.
Don't think I'm gonna make this run, as I haven't even got my ex back yet.
Oh well, next time.

If it dumps toooooooo much, I won't be going either :(

Maybe I'll just have to reschedule it :?: ..........We'll see :)

It's been a while since I was there, but it sounds like things have changed quite a bit.

Now I just need to hijack a trail-ready rig and try it out. No way is my Screw ready for rock rash, and tree bashing.

Warrlord - I saw on your site some pics of a blue ranger. The owner of that rig lives in my neighborhood, so I may have to try and meet him/her. It sure looks like it has no problems with trees/rock rash etc...

His name is Anthony. He's been on several runs with us. The last one was Holy Cross last July 24th. He's a good guy & his truck is built very nice. A 9" & D44, coil sprung all around. It flexes very nice.

Stop by & say Hi to him sometime. Tell him that Larry (Warrlord) from the Springs said Hi too. Let him know about this site.

Last May, I organized a "Ranger Roundup" at Chinamans, He showed up for the weekend & his Ranger was the tallest one there & he's running 35's while I run 37's. I'm gonna be doing another Roundup this year but it's not just for Rangers. I'll drop the Ranger part when I get it going & post it here. At the Roundup I met a guy at the camp spot next to us, he drives a ZR2. He ended up going wheeling with us & had a blast. Since then, I've wheeled several times with the guys from ZR2.com, turns out they're a great bunch of folks & didn't mind me being the only Blue Oval guy. It's great meeting folks that share the same intrests............That makes it fun.

Sorry for babbling on & on. I was on a little roll :)

I was with larry on that run and like he says its not inpassable. A bone stock 84 ranger made it with only a broken u-joint. this trail is a blast. I can't make this run, but later in the year I will be there as well as trying to plan a run over SchofeildPass/Devils Punchbowl ( I will keep the full doors on this time Larry) later in the summer.http://cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/371000-371999/371593_9.jpg this actually is about the hardest section of the whole run, but with good spotting its really not that tough.....

Trip postponed due to incliment weather in the Buena Vista area. :( :(

Been conversing with a guy that lives over there. It would be too miserable to have fun. Oh well, I needed to do a few things around here anyway.

If they have as much snow as we've got here Larry, it's for the best. The north end of my driveway has a good 7 or 8' high x that much long snow bank, just from my driveway ( I will try to get some pics to you). We will just have to run chinamans later in the spring  Just try and hang on, I know your needing your fix, but this gives me time to get the 8.8 in 8) hang in there buddy.........

If you hit it on a Saturday next time, I am soooo there. It's a bit further than I want to go but it looks sick!
