So after checking and finding out what the problem with my heater only blowing on low was I started poking around and noticed/came upon a few other things.
This is a bit long. The truck is a 1978 F150 4x4 with AC but most of it is not connected.

First, on the side of the carb is a black cap, that has 2 connectors on it. One has nothing plugged into it. What should be plugged in here? Carb model is 9605S.

On the other side of the carb coming out of the firewall is a small chain. it appears that is should be connected to the carb but is not. See the pic.

Next is the coil. There is what I think is a resistor on top of the coil it has a wire coming out of it then a connector then a wire that is not attached to anything. I looked around and do not see anything that it would be attached to. What is this for? Where does it go?
Next is a connector coming out of the firewall on the passenger side. the connector has a length of wire coming out of it and a female connector at the end, this is not plugged into anything. What should it be plugged in to? The missing connecting on the carb possibly?

Finally, there is a connector that has two wires connected to it. i followed it back and it goes to an electric fuel pump. There is still the manual fuel pump connected though. When I turn the ignition on I do not hear the electric pump working. Any way to tell which one is actually providing fuel? Other than taking one or the other off?

Any help would be appreciated.

Here is my :twocents: on it..

On the first pic, that is the electric choke for the carb. The red wire should have power when the key is in "run" position. The other one is for a ground. Looks like its missing a ground. Some carbs don't need the ground wire as they will still work.

The second pic with the chain looks like cruise control. Your truck have the buttons on the steering wheel or dash for cruise control? I can see a servo (i think thats what there called) in another pic next to the brake booster where your speedometer cable goes in and comes back out of it and goes to the dash.

As for your coil, that should be a noise surpressor(spelling?) If your talking about the small round cartridge looking thing next to it.. It hooks up to the ignition coil and is supposed to keep any noise from coming through the radio.

For the long wire, what color is it? Is there a stripe on it? It could be a number of things. Might goto the horn. Would need more info on that.

For the last one, I don't remember what that connector does. I have seen many of them have jumper wires on them. I would check it for power with a voltmeter. Check for power at the fuel pump also. Keep in mind, depending on what type of electric fuel pump someone installed it might have too much pressure and cause the floats to get pushed down in the carb and it will flood the truck with gas or it could be dead from old age..

so grounding the choke to the block will work? or just about anywhere else?
the choke is not working, now i know what. after i ground it is there a way to adjust it?

the steering wheel does have cruise controls on it. the servo is where it is connected to now correct? into what looks like a black box with an arm coming out. where on the card does it connect?

the long wire was black with either a blue or green stripe on it. the horn is working so i'm not sure if that is it.

i plan on checking the electric fuel pump to see if it is working but its been too damn cold.
