I went camping this last summer, south of Tarryall Reservoir in primative camping areas. I was so disgusted with how Every camping spot we hit up was covered in brass ammo from pigs leaving their trash wherever they saw fit. I had to clean up our area the fire pit had burnt up lawn chairs, shotgun shells bullet shells etc etc among more and more garbage. These places will no longer be free if it continues. Quads running everywhere making more noise, kicking up more dirt. It took me an hour to get as much of the garbage from the last group cleaned up as I could.
the entire weekend was like that. I saw one small group of off roaders go through all nice and peacefully just taking their time in no big rush.

I used to like going camping in primatave areas, but now I don't like it so much if this is what I see when I go.

To each his own they say

cant stand when people leave their ammo casings laying around pretty irresponsible imo. As far as the quads go there is not much you can do if the land is open to their use but if its not than that is another story entirelly. Me personally I always try to minimize the noise when I can tell I am close to someones camp out of respect. I still know some places you can go to get away from taht kind of stuff but they are up north.

I have had to deal with that kind of behaviour My self a whole bunch of people in big new RV's camp in a big group and then leave a huge mess trash as far as the eye could see through the tree's and thier campfire still smoldering .They brought thier dogs ,really big labradores and let them roam free i thought they were going to eat my little dogs that were tied up or on leashes .I had to stand gaurd intill they left and then deal with the park ranger after .i was glad when he made a full report of them and said He recognized them and would deal with them if He ever saw them around the area again .

To me, used shell casings piss me off, but what really pisses me off is flat out trash... like beer cans, food wrappers, you name it... I dont know what people are thinking when they just leave stuff there, like someone will come along to pick up their trash at some point. Yeah, the people who actually enjoy camping beyond just going to the mountains to get trashed.

Then another time I was camping for the day alone with My dog painter and this group of bikers showed up and kind of acted threatening about the site I was in .like it belonged to them .because they had been using it every summer that they visited .I ignored the threat .but thier were four of them and only one of Me .I was packing up anywhay My bike broken. but what a sour note to a rather fun day.

Yeah, those cans and casings will break down to their base elements in a millinium or two.

One good thing about ammo casings is if you pick them up you can get some pretty good money for them at any recycling center. Not as much as you could at one point, but brass still brings in pretty good money. Worth the time to pick them up.

shawn if you are interested as far as the ATV side of rhe argument goes this is a pretty interesting read..... it really shows how the atv community is under the same kind of fire as the offroad truck community and how the three sides are very much the same as they are in the offroad truck community http://www.atvconnection.com/Features/Feature_Articles/The-Great-ATV-Debate.cfm

If they are brass. So many are steel casings and such now to keep the cost of ammo down

Which is why the cheap bastards shoot it. They don't know how to reload.
