My friend Paul and I started out at Mimi's Cafe for breakfast. That drive alone was pretty hair raising. All the streets and freeway were very icy. I bent up my front shaft out at CORE so I could not use 4 Wheel drive. I got there safe and we had a good breakfast then headed out. The streets were better as we headed north.
It was snowing off and on pretty good through out the day. We went up to 5 points then headed down a trail that lead us to where the Left hand challenge is. That looped us up to the upper connection of trails so we took another trail and that was pretty hair raising. I lost a right front tire with out knowing it and waisted a wheel. Lot of shelf road bearley wide enough for my truck, and trees that I sneaked through by an inch or so it was very tight. With 4-5 inches of snow any time the trail leaned off towards the edge it was tricky. I had to stop and back off a couple of times as my truck drifted off the edge. I was glad to see this trail conjoin back into the main Left Hand trail till I saw an abandoned truck that had slipped off the trail. This part is called the "Narrows". Luckily it was no where as narrow as the trail we got off of and we were able to make a very hard right turn (it took me 5 times to get my truck turned) to head back down the trail, with out hitting the abandoned truck

Paul just recently installed a locker in his Dodge and it worked very well. It was his very first time he was on a shelf road and he handled him self and his truck very well.
All and all we had a great time and Paul is hooked on 4 Wheeling.

Very icy:

Me and my friends headed up there too just to see how it looked. Very muddy and fun upto 5 points. Tried to go a little further but the tires dont like the wet rocks much. Heard about that F-150 too, thats gotta suck. Looks like fun.

Damn thats crazy. Nice looking pics!!

If that F150 was blue rather then red I would have thought it was Jeff. :laughing2: :D

That wheel looks like the one off my buddies camper when we went to the dunes this last spring and he blew out a tire and lost it some where.

We were heading down a very tight trail. I was squeezing my truck between a couple trees, and it was very rocky. I noticed I was having a hard time steering then when I got through the tight spot I heard the grinding noise from the front.
I thought I had broke a axle. I crawled under the truck to check the joints then noticed my tire was gone.

At that time Paul was asking me who would leave a tire in the middle of a trail, then he noticed oh okay your tire. So he backed up and picked it up for me.

I am usually brave for having no safety bead I was running about 12 psi.

in all honesty I have always been amazed that doesn't happen to ya more with those 16.5's looks like a good time glad I didn't go idea dented something and then I would have embarrassed myself by crying :(

I was thinking about that. I have been known to air down to 6psi with those and in 15 years with this truck that is the first tire I have lost.
I believe it was a combination of a steep hill, rocks, and a hard left that ripped it off the wheel.
I took the 40's off this weekend and put the radial 38's on 15" wheels for good. I have decided to retire the 40's as they are pretty worn and over 15 years old. I figure I got my moneys worth out of them.

The chances were very good that a full sized truck would have gotten body damage. I was amazed how tight it was in areas. I did catch the corner of my hood and a tree branch poked out my left front side marker light.

If there is one thing that give me the chills, its narrow, icy trails with no where to go but way down.

Looks like it was fun. That F150 looks nice. Hopefully they got it out ok.
