Lighting Question

Mostly for Matt .. but feel free to chime in !

I just bought a PIAA air dam for my SuperCrew and am trying to figure out the best lights for the outer holes ...

I've seen some Piaa 520's on eBay for about $160 but they are only 55w .. .

should I look for something that's 100w ? are the 520's upgradeable to 100w?

If it were me, I'd look for a cheaper 100w alternative....but I'm a cheap-ass.

I think Matt has the 520s in his, and I'm sure 55w is plenty of light, but it's all going to come down to personal preference.

Oh I hear ya Tray !

I'm not that excited about spending the money on expensive lights .. I mean hell .. look at the $30 lights I put in my grill .. they work GREAT and look cooolio !

I'm half tempted to go to Pep Boys and see if some of their "6 inch" chrome lights might not work in the holes

but we'll see ... maybe Matt has a hookup for some 100w Piaa's that'll work in there!!! :D

I hope Matt does not smack me, but I have 520's on my brush guard and I've never been satisfied with the lighting for as much money as I spent. I have other PIAA lights on my truck which I'm thrilled with, just not the 520's.

You don't have to run PIAA lights int eh airdam if you don't want to, you may just have to make some adjustment to the bracket one way or another (spacer washers mainly) but it should work.
I personally like the 520's but like Jeff said, they aren't the brightest light they make.
As far as whether the 520's are upgradable, they only recommend upgrading to an 85 watt bulb, which I did in my driving lights some time ago.

oh cool ! so on the 520's ..which 'series' of 520 do you have ? i.e. .. SMR ? Ion?

I have the 520 SMR Driving now, but I had the SMR fogs in there before the recent change, and 520 driving/fogs at many points before then on various vehicles. Not sure what lights I'll be putting on the Warn Trans4mer, not sure if the 80 Rally's I have on there now are going to fit...

So .... do you Matt ? or anyonelse? Have and extra set of 85-150 watt 6" round lights you want to unload and help me install into my new valance using the stock foglight switch?

I currently do not have any lights that I am not using, but I can help you wire them up if you like.

as soon as I get some .. I'll take you up on that Matt ! I'd like to figure get the new ones in the valance running off the stock fog switch .. I think you've done that mod before ~ yes?
