I believe it could be most effective at helping keep you cool if some of the ice were replaced with beer. :)

After President James a Garfield was shot two things were invented. One was a rudimentary metal detector, by Alexander Graham Bell, to locate the bullet in his chest. The other was an air conditioning unit where air was blown over ice and run through a cotton filter to decrease the humidity. The room Garfield was being treated in was reported to have dropped about 20 degrees.
