Happy Birthday!

Of course you are probably doing something fun, like wheeling.

I Hope it's a good one!

Thanks guys. I did do a little wheeling today. We ran up to the T-33A crash site.

Starkman - I did get one pic of the truck on its side. We had to work fast. It was 6pm by the time we got up there and the truck was on a really nasty steep hill. It had no brakes thanks to sitting upsidedown all night long. We did get it back down the hill and fired up, but it was sketchy.

For those of you that met Brenden at the Chinaman's run this year, we were sitting around playing some video games last Saturday when we got a call from his friend Drew who lives up by Sugarloaf. Drews roommate had rolled his truck on Switzerland trail. We didn't believe it at first, but we got up there and there was a marked trail that off-shoots Switzerland with a really nasty hill. Apparently they were out there late the night before in a carb'ed Toyota pickup on 31's. The engine died 3/4's the way up the trail and they started rolling backwards with no vacuum boost to the brakes and the loss of power steering made the truck hard to control and one of the front wheels began to climb the embankment and it rolled the truck onto its roof at which point it began to slide down the hill on its lid. They had to walk 4 miles home in the dark. (stupid for not going out with a second rig) The next day they got the truck back onto its side with a rachet strap and a boat winch, but could not get it onto its wheels.

We were able to get the truck on its wheels pretty quickly, but the brakes no longer worked due to sitting upsidedown all night, so we had to lower the truck down the hill 25ft at a time with a winch and a snatch block. Eventually we got the truck turned around and used the engine and clutch as a brake so we could "drive" it down the remainder of the hill.(150 yards) Then I had to back down the hill on loose rocks and soil. (sucked)

Once at the bottom, we could address the fluids. The truck started and ran okay on the level ground and we were able to drive it the rest of the way back to their house.

Total recovery time: 2 hrs
Total round trip from my house including BSing and dinner: 8.5 hrs

On top of it all, my front winch started acting up. It was acting like a gear was missing a tooth. Turns out the bushing on the primary sun gear was never greased from the factory and it galled the bushing and the gear. I had to pry the gear out of the bushing and grind off the chunks of bushing that had welded themselves to the gear. I smoothed the bearing surface and greased the crap out of it. Runs like a sewing machine again.
