I noticed Her this morning She kept trying to bite Her rump .and with an inspection I first thought She had been bitten or kicked .She had a dime sized gash next to her bum and the area all looked raised hard and sore like a golfball sized abscess her tail is red and swollen and her leg as well .I cleaned Her and cut all the matted hair away and applied antibotic ointment .After thinking on it I decided it best to take her in .I was told it was not a bite or a kick .but it was a anale absess and very serious ,they could not do more than a shot and some medication today .I was to take her home and see a surgion as soon as possible as she needs to be sedated and have it surgically removed .I called the Downtown Animal Care Center and made an apointment sort of ,they said I could take her in tomarrow morning at 9:00 am and they could evaluate her for 15 dollers .And give Me an estimate for the service we at this time would apreciate Your prayers and sugestions .I am following the advice of the vet and giving her the pills and applying some hot compresses I looked up Her condition on the internet and it said that some dogs have a cronic problem with this and thier anle glands have to be physically drained every week or so and a new diet of more bran fiber may also help .Or could simply have them removed and either have problems deficating or no problems at all for the rest of thire lives ?
If anyone knows of a good place to go ,Or a cheeper place ,Or someplace that bases the procedure on income .I dont want to lose my dog but I dont want to lose My house either anfd We are bairly making rent now .The wife hasn't worked for 6 months due to her condition and hasnt yet recieved much in the way of assistance .Im working enough to stick to what Im doing .But something like this could break the bank and send us rolling on a collision course ,If not handled properly .God give Me strength to do the right thing for everyone .http://www.rmftc.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=18&pictureid=112

Thanks Mike I called Harrison Memorial first .That is where all My dogs got thier spayed and nueter also thier shots .i was on My way there when I called and they said they didn't have an opening till tuesday .I felt I needed to do something right away so I went to the other vet .She got a shot and some antbiotic pills as well also some pain killers .I got some usefull information about treatment and have been busy changing hot compresses trying to remove some of the poison .Painter seems very greatful and is in good spirits considering her condition .Shes a strong dog and still able to jump into and out of the truck .although with signs of pain .right now Im trying to think of a way to keep her wound clean after I wash it .I used to have a corset /diaper looking thing when she was young before we got her spayed but even if I found it Im shure it wouldnt fit .She got wieghed at the vet and she's over twice the wieght now that she was then some 22.5 lbs back before she had her litter she wieghed just 9 lbs.

You can tell teh MaxFund folks you know me and they might give you a discount or something, but not sure on that because their normal prices are already offered at or below their cost. Wish you the best either way,m it's tough when you have to decide between the animal you love and how much it'll cost you, been in that situation before :(

I think there is a place in Denver that sees animals based on income. We had a one of our dogs neutered there back in the 90's and I think my sister has had dogs taken there in the past. I can't remember the name but if you dial the denver info line (311) I'm sure they will be able to point you in the right direction. In the mean time I'll try to find out where it is and the phone number.
Hope everything works out.

Just as a thought, the county extension may be able to help too. I don't know, but its worth a try.

Well I just got back from the vet and as i suspected the fee for the emediat procedure was somewhat more than I could justify at this time .Especially when Harris said based on Income I might be able to have it done for 150.00 .As a bright note the vet this morning said that the compress seems to be working and the antibiotics too and with the pain pills she doesnt seem to be in too much discomfort .she doesnt seem to mind Me washing Her up so I should keep up the good work and maby I wont even have to have the procedure done .Im also going to not leave Her alone and watch her diet .my wife has some appointments today and so no work for Me but I can make up tomarrow and sunday a small price to pay for My best friend .Thanks Matt the vet at Maxfund said that they were booked up for today and I have been calling around for estimates .I guess I could put all my crap up for auction here and see if I could come up with the $ that way or simply take some tools to the pawnshop Monday and come up with the cash I was hoping to save the last ditch efforts for when bonnie needs a procedure because once these assets are gone I wont have them anymore and they do come in handy when needed .
P.S. I already got the You'll do More for your dog than for me Yesterday from Bonnie which isn't true .I would like to think Id make the best desision based on the emediate available information .I think of us as a family and some of it has to do with the difference between dog and Human but I feel that all can be delt with acordingly and so I told Her to back off .after all it was only a Vet visit .It might have saved Her life .
Then I decided to talk about all our available options and she told Me to shut-up so the discussion ended.

Ok I talked to my sister and she said she thinks the place is Alameda East veterinary hospital.
She also said that Planned Pethood Plus will work on income. Not sure where Alameda east is, but Planned Pethood is between 38th and 44th and tennyson.
Hope that helps.

On a more positive note all is not lost I think as long as Im stuck here at the house I started sanding on the Chevy getting it ready for Paint I should get it done especially if I have to pawn the compressor or the sander I already bought the sandpaper and the paint was left over from the other truck I fixed months ago paper and tape is stocked and on hand for the use .I just hope the weather cooperates these little rain showers everyday are putting a real big damper on my ext.paint projects at this time .P.S. I have welding wire and metle to patch the rust holes up too and Bondo as well overstock left over from other projects .as long as the electricity is still on Im on ,by the way the color is going to be the same white as that was the color of the last truck I touched up.I could give it some pink accents as I have t-up left over from when my GMC was Pink but I think Not :p

NO NO NO
Alameda East veterinary hospital is where they film emergency vets (animal planet show) I am FORCED to go to all the way up there with them because with my 2 wolves its the only place that will leagly see them and actually know 2 cents in what their doing with a wolf hybrid0. But they charge me and arm and a leg. Where as our vet on post i can normal check up 3 year shots and 3 year city reg for 4 dogs for the price of one preventive checkup at Alameda. Umm my female is my 10k a month baby and has sorta the same problem with her glands. I know this might be late but her vet in littleton Columbine Animal hospital helped a few times when we were pressed for cash on letting us do payments.
Oh and they are off Alameda and Evans

I took her to alameda east when she got ran over by a car .As it was an emergency .Yea a bit pricy .For a check and an exray?an hour an a half observation and a pill with a perscription for pain pills 350.00 they also wanted to keep Her over night for a coupla days at 1000.00 bucks a night .She walked in and She walked out with Me .No broken bones and no internal bleeding .She was brused and sore for about a week ,and had a bump on Her head .about ten weeks later .Painter did the same thing with the same car and the same guy ran over her again .This time I watched it .The first time I didn't see it .aparently in both cases she simply sat down in the way of this particular car and let it roll over her like a speed bump .I think the guy assumed she would walk out of the way ,but she didnt .and the guy was an ass about it .said something to the affect dumb dog deserves to get run over or something .His wife or girlfrien was with Him and agreed .She yelped as the rear tire rolled over Her belly and then ran very fast for about 100 yards not really in a straight line I think she was looking for someplace to hide .I chased Her and cought Her when she turned I dived and cought and she almost bit Me at first untill she recognized Me .then back to the vet .This time they reported Me to animal cruelty .I thought the guy that ran over Her should Be reported .But when the inspector came to my house they didn't even want to talk to the guy .Just looked around and at the spot and circomstance of the incident and told me I could go to Jail if anything was ever reported again .We havent had anymore incidents and didn't have too difficult a time when applying for a furriers permit to have four dogs living with us three years later .

I guess I should explain about Painter being in the alley /parking lot /courtyard .The family that gave painter to Me lived accros the ally with four small children .as a single parent the woman gave us one of her two dogs as the four kids and two dogs in a two bedroom apartment was too much .the two dogs were given to Her when she visited Her Father with Her Boyfriend /Husband in Kansas .Her Husband dissapiered and She was alone with too Much responsibility .Painter and I used to play/Train in the courtyard and the children would come and watch .She was really good at feching a ball and catch and I had this flag in the end of a long branch and she would chase it and jump and catch it and swing around on the end of the stick with the rag in Her jawls .The children learned to play catch with Her .while I watched .They also would play with thier other dog but as it wasn't trained the same it didn't always work the same .Painter had specific comands and I just never tought the other dog and the children didn't know how .Sometimes they would ask if they could take Painter to thier house and play close so thier mother could watch them and I said it was OK as long as it was OK with thier Mother .This became a realaxed situation and the cars would travel slowly because of the children and the caution signs .and often when I was outside they would come and take painter to play when i had Her tyied up next to Me while working on the car .As it turned out it was a miscomunication I was working on the car and the children wanted to play so i didnt tye her up but the children had to go somewhere with thier mother and painter waited in the ally and watched the children as the car ran over Her . My interest was on the car and not on the children playing or painter untill the mother said that painter had been run over .So the children and thier mother witnessed it the first time .We were More carefull and My interest wasnt so intent on the car the second time .The children called Her over and she only went half way the second time I just wasnt fast enuogh the second time without being run over Myself even though the car was only going 1 mph. The children didnt play with painter after that and thier dog ran away or something .and Painter got pregnant and had babies and We all lived Happily ever after .Good Night ,,,,,... : ).

I do not know if you got her handled yet, I wish I saw this sooner, my Vet down off of arapahoe road and parker road has been the best. Academy Acres Animal Hospital.
Ben is in perfect health but Nikki's Cat was practically mutilated by the cat vet on buckley, so she took him to mine, they took really good care of him and was fairly reasonable

But when the inspector came to my house they didn't even want to talk to the guy .Just looked around and at the spot and circomstance of the incident and told me I could go to Jail if anything was ever reported again .
When my Blue Heeler bit a kid in the ass, animal control was called out. Our neighbor saw animal control, and the kid's parents kicking a fuss. He had something to add to the report: He saw some other kids teasing and provking my dog while he was chained in the yard. Those kids took off and the next bunch came down the walk, my dog jumped the fence (on his chain) and started barking at them. They took off and he did what Heelers do; he nipped one.
With that information, animal control issued some kind of "first bite" warning. The kid's dad was pretty irate with the animal control officer, started acting like an asshole. The officer turned around to the guy and stated that if he gave me a citation for anything, it would be for leaving my dog exposed to teenagers.
That dog was great! The smaller and more vunerable a child was, the more my dog loved that child and protected it. If you were a teenager, you better watch your fawkin step!
I'm glad Painter is doing better. I really like her disposition.

Painter is doing much better .The signature gland is down to the size of a smaller marshmellow not hart like it was and the swelling in Her tail and leg is gone .She still has a wound and it needs to be cleaned often ,as the designated groomer I have found a maternal side I didn't realize I had .Im thankfull this condition hasn't caused Her to Be incontinent .I'll have to make a decision to either let it heal the way it is and keep watch over for the rest of Her life or to have the bad side removed .I need to discuss this with the surgen as ive been told this procedure either works or can also cause incontinence .

I had that happen... With my pit i normaly leave her in the yard so we know when someones coming by (we moved closer to base and a OH SO NOT NICE NEIGHBORHOOD) and some kids that earlier in the week jacked a dog out of a yard and were playing kick the can with it came and were teasing kami cause i have her chain set up that the closest she can get to the side walk is a foot from her nose and the cement, and thats REALLLLY STREACHING...... So low and behold I moved her after the kick the can so now shes chained to my trucks bumper...well the little bleeps came and were teasing her.. next thing i knew i hear SNAP after watching my tires move to the right 3 feet and a chain being droped....Lil bastards where teasing kami with a steak and she was just doing her job. (shes a trained comp weight puller hence the harness she was wearing) Cops came but knew me from earlier in the week looked my truck saw the tracks in the rocks where it got drug and the snaped harness and ticketed the all three childrens parents.

Painter is really doing better now almost all if not all the swelling is gone now I just checked Her .she still has a small spot that needs to heal and it is uncomfortable for her at times .
what started it is anyones guess It was an abcess either around Her gland or in the gland it was so close very difficult to tell .When it drained after using the hot compresses it seemed to be higher than the gland .I first noticed something wrong she seemed to be a little slower walking than normal and when jumping into the truck she would rock back and fourth three or four times before actually jumping like she was too fat or something .She lost some spring in Her step .But what I really noticed was a coupla times she ran up to me and jumped with Her front paws on Me and then whipped around to bite Her ars .so I said whats up? and looked .and ther was something there that wasn't right .I had just brushed Her and groomed Her the night before and hadnt noticed anything either .what I noticed was a very hard bump it wasn't red .I thought Her ars was swollen so I applied some vaseline and we all went to sleep so when we woke up the next day she kept coming to me getting my attention and then turning to bite Her rump and she had tore all the hair off of Her so I could see and it was very red and raised Her tail and leg as well so I cleaned Her and removed some of the matted hair .and called the vet .I knew she needed some antibiotic at the very least .The Vet diagnosed the absessed gland telling Me it was very common in smaller dogs femails that are overwieght .but it can happen to other dogs as well .gave Her a shot perscribed some pills for pain and more antibiotics and said I needed to scedual Her for surgery ,the very next day. Also: told Me I needed to apply hot compresses to the area four or five times a day. That night while applying the compress (boiled water on a rag from a pan).to her rump .I was pushing pinching the raised area and the darn thing broke (YUCK)!cleaned it all up with the hot rag .changed the water and cleaned again then applied antibiotic ointment where it broke .went to bed and visited the vet first thing in the morning .some of the swelling had already gone down .the vet wanted 300.00 to start .and know ing i could have the surgery bases On My income instead decided to waite till I could make another apointment .That is when the vet told Me that if I kept with what I was doing i might not need to see another surgion .so tuesday was the first appointment available .I called the vet again yesturday and explained to her that Painter was much better and the gland seems to be functioning properly and the swelling was almost all gone all that is left is a small scratch and that skin was beginning to grow over the scratch .the vet told Me to apply antibiotic ointment .When i went to the store I got hemeroidal ointment instead .It has shark oil in it and seems to be more soothing so she doesnt lick the wound or skoot on the dirt or floor .the vet said iiiiif it takes her mind off of it that is good .and said she should be good in the next coupla days but if anything else happens give them a call.
