So I moved my local telephone service from Qwest to Comcast a couple of weeks ago. Paid my final Qwest bill. Yesterday, I get a new bill for over $300! On the phone this morning, they inform me that - after making changes to my account last November - I entered into a contract (for 2 years?) with them. This isn't in writing anywhere, although they claim if I look at my bill, I've been receiving a credit for this "package" of services. Only problem - I don't get a bill and every time I've logged in to qwest.com to check it, it says my request can't be completed at this time. Fun.

So, I'm disputing that I was ever in a contract with Qwest on this until they produce written (which they can't) or verbal proof (with my voice) that I was informed about it. If and until that happens, they're not getting another cent from me! Should be interesting. I'm supposed to receive a call in the next 48 hours from someone in the Denver Small Business Group. Will update when I do.

In the meantime, if you have Qwest, be forewarned about making changes to your service(s)!

I would drive up to Idaho and put my foot in someone's ass.

Had something similar happen w/ us and got a $300 bill after changing from Qwest to Comcast. When I called they said we "had a 2 year contract" and the $$ was from "breaking the contract." Also, could not find anything on it in writing because we did online billing & etc.

I've often felt bad about bad-mouthing Qwest because my bad experience was years ago and I had hoped they had straightened out their customer service.
Sadly, it seems they are still the same old crappy company.
I've said it before. I'd switch to tin cans and string before I'd go back to qwest.

wow, that is pretty lame... seems like what a lot of companies are doing, and its basically cheating you into something... my guess is they said "would you like this x service for only $49 a month instead of $59 a month?" and didn't explain that that meant you couldn't cnancel without paying a huge fine or penalty.

Of course I get pissed everytime I hear a qwest dsl ad for blazing fast internet or something, up to 20mbps they say! Fiberobtic fast, super lightning bl;azing fast! (available only in select areas) which means they are advertising to everyone, but only a few people can actually get that fast... I can't even get their DSL service, but I suppose I shouldn't complain too much... because if I had it, I'd probably be complaining about it :)

I hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction Chris.

I didn't know Qwest did a contract obligation with a home phone line. I guess they figured if cell phone providers can do it, they might as well too. I haven't had Qwest since 7/05 & haven't looked back (sorry Heath) :(
