View Full Version : Concerning the RMFTC Event in June........

This Event (http://www.rmftc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5865)

For that weekend, the plan was...................Chuck, (aka thesoundmaster) was going to take the lead for the trail run the Saturday that weekend for the group that wanted to run a milder trail than Chinamans. His job got in the way so he won't be able to do it anymore unfortunately. he was looking forward to it & feels bad about but work comes first

What I need is, someone that has some trail experience that would be willing to take the reigns. We had a trail exploration planned for this Saturday the 9th to determine what trail(s) would provide the most fun, scenery, & some challenges with a less than likely chance of vehicle damage, where a lift and/or locker would not be required. This way, everyone can come out for the event weekend & go wheeling even if their vehicle is stock.

Some ideas for these are.............

Mount Antero (http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=51)

Mount Princeton (http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=121)

Hancock Pass (http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=245)

Tincup Pass (http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=120)

Pomeroy Lakes (http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=246)

Would anyone be willing to take on this task for the RMFTC annual event?

If you decide to accept this mission, please know that you will lead that trail run during the event.

Aw bummer Sean, sorry to hear that. :(

Thanks Don, let's give some time cause I know you wanna run Chinamans :D

Let me say that this exploration run doesn't have to be on the 9th. But, I can't make it the following weekend 16-17 because of home duties. But, I can do one of the days on Memorial weekend.

If someone that wants to do it can only get out the weekend of 16-17, please feel free :)

As long as we can get this done before the weekend of June 6-7, it'll all be good.

Like I said I have a meeting to go to Saturday. Other than that I am free for the month.

Hope fully my truck will be back together tonight or tomorrow. The meeting is in the Springs and I want to drive it there to break it in.

I did not find any thing wrong except the ring spacing, so hopefully she will be back together and no smoky smoky.

So if you choose another weekend to pre run let me know.

Also if all else fails on the stock run, I can ask my wife if she would be willing to lead in the Expedition. She is a damn good wheeler.

Doing what over Memorial day weekend?

Finding the best, mild to moderate scenic trail in the B/V area for those that aren't going to run Chinamans. However, at this point, it looks like everyone is wanting to run Chinamans.

Last year, after receiving several PM's regarding doing a trail that would be easier on vehicles closer to stock & not damaging anything like Chinamans would be likely to do to a stockish vehicle, I thought that this year there could be two groups run trails in that area. One for the ones that have a disregard for body & undercarriage damage (meaning Chinamans) & a trail that offers a challenge or two but won't damage someone's daily driver, stockish vehicle, yet provide a great scenic, fun, trail run.

If nobody wants to pre run the milder trails in that area for the event weekend, that might mean that nobody wants to run a milder trail. But, there is the possibility that if they want to but can't make it out for this pre run, they can always find the trails that weekend. The links in the first post give good directions to those trails.

I'm willing to go out & do a pre run but only if there will be a group running any of those trails, otherwise I don't see the point in going out to Buena Vista & running those right now.

I would be up for doing it over Memorial Larry. If we can't get anyone we could always go ahead and run Chinamans as well. Or any trail that weekend.......

You wouldn't have any issues Mark. Since you did the obstacle at the beginning of Spring Creek & the rock garden there, Chinamans will be a walk in the park for the Sploder :D

I'd be up for Chinaman's on Memorial. Was going to run it this weekend but a couple of my buds and I are either gonna run Eagle Rock (If it's open. It should be though), or China Wall. Kind of a warm up run to make sure all our rigs are ready for the summer before hitting Chinaman's.

Yup, it's on 285 on your left shortly after you cross the Arkansas River. We'll be on the side of the truckstop that has the gas pumps & our trucks will be right out front next to the street. No worries on the time, meeting time is 9:00 so we probably won't leave for the trail till about 9:30 which is just a few minutes away. I'll pm you my cell # incase you're running late or something. We'll wait for ya

Generally, it's about a 3 hour run with just a few rigs like we'll have. But.................if there's a large group in front of us, that can slow things down quite a bit. getting to Pueblo from there isn't bad, you can take 285 south to 50 at Salida & head east or take 24 to Hartsel then turn right at Highway 9 to Canon City & highway 50 the head east.

Just remember, this is a holiday weekend so there might quite a few people/groups running that trail this Saturday. I need to be back at my house by 6:00 so if there's a large group holding things up, I might have to turn around on the trail but I'll play it by ear cause I gotta out of the house ;) :D

I would rather not drive 4 hrs round trip and the risk not completing the trail.

So I am going to pass and I'll see every one on the 5th for a good time camping and wheeling.

There's always a chance of not finishing a trail run no matter how far away it is. My first time going to Holy Cross, we didn't get to finish it. There were two Jeeps broken on the trail, (a part of the trail where there's no way to get around anyone) one right after French Creek, one in French Creek. We sat in line for over 3 hours & I counted the rigs behind the broken ones, I was #41 in line & there were 28 more rigs that came up behind me during that 3 hour wait.

Talk about being disappointed, a 3.5 hour drive one way & we only got to do 2/3's of the trail. But that's the way it goes sometimes.

There's a group from 4x4.org running Chinamans tomorrow, their meeting time is a half hour before ours so we'll be behind them. If it's a large group, then it'll be a long day. If not, we can finish the trail with plenty of time to spare, ya just never know.

Oh well, see ya in June

You make a valid point, and if we were not planning on running this trail in 2 weeks I would be there.

But since we are, and things have changed on the home front, and a few other things I am going to wait to run that trail.

I do feel bad as I want to go badly and I do not like backing out.

Looking forward to having a good time in 2 weeks.

I try to never run a trail (or at least didn't back in my wheeling days) if I had some place important to be afterwords, because I hardly ever got done when I thought I would. Something always comes up... either you get stuck beehind a slow group, or someone in your group is having mechanical problems or worse, someone in your group rolls their vehicle etc. so find never to say I'll be odne at a certain time :). Theres been plenty of times I plan on being back by mid-afternoon and got home in the middle of the night instead.

Your right Matt, if I really had to be back at around 3:00 or 4:00, I'd cancel. But for me tomorrow, it's not real important that I get back right at 6:00. If something happens to me or others that causes me to get home at 10:00 then that's just the way it is :D

I've been in trouble with wifey before & she got over it, she'll be able to get over it again ;) :)

Since it's such a long time frame, I'm gonna go wheeling & see what happens :)

What was wrong?

Warrlord
07-29-2009, 08:19 AM
The factory gauge is out of whack. It doesn't ever get over 211 degrees, (normal operating temp range) then the electric fans kick on & it cools down nicely.

The trans leak is the torque converter seal.
