A real good friend of mine switched to Comcast. The Direct TV service was unreliable, mainly because any time it was cloudy she didn't have TV. I have Comcast bundled with the internet, it is cheap (relatively), reliable, and I have even been impressed with their customer service the one time we had to use it for setup.

I've had comcast since I moved out of the house... I've thought about switching a few times because sometimes they get under my skin, but generally theyc ome through on things.

We had the opposite happen because our ancient cable network here sucks monkey butt!!! All the houses around us have a dish on the roof. It takes a really dense cloud cover, or 3" of wet, gloppy snow on the dish to interrupt our signal. I'm thinking of mounting a flood lamp under the dish for the snow problem.

We have the Qwest bundle and are overall happy...except for the switch to Verizion.

When we lived in Aurora, cable was good, expensive, but good.

I have all but given up on pay per view service I'm under the impression its a total rip off all of them even blockbuster now with thier movies is way expensive when You sit down and examine how much is spent and what You have to show for it at the end of the year .even if I only paid 100 dollers a month it costs 1200 bucks a year comcast with thier so-called-bundle was ripping Me for about 180 a month order a coupla movies and it turns into 2400.00 bucks a year I could buy another nice bike or another project car I prefer to spend My time in the garage and at the track anywhay and with the new digital converter box I got the picture on the channels I do get is great .It's plenty to keep the wife satisfied .piss on 200 channels and nothing to watch it rots Yer brain anywho .

I had direct TV because cumcast blows. And my Brother in law works for them, LOL. I never had any reliability problems with any of my dish systems. Even when I lived in silverthorne in the middle of a whiteout blizzzard my signal never even faded
Much more affordable. I went with mesa net for my satelite high speed, it was awesome as well. they are now skybeam, it is a motorola company. If you use direct TV go with them directly instead of through Quest, they are easier to deal with and you dont get them new charges on your bill every month that you have to call in and ask them to remove them every month.

I got DirecTV because I work for Qwest and got a good deal at signup... It wasn't as good as what they're doing now though... WOW... Honestly, I've discovered a lot has to do with the placement of your dish... Mine is on the back of my house about shoulder height... Its protected from most of the rain by the eves of the house.... It doesn't get much wind because its on the NE corner (east wall facing SE), most of the wind in my area comes out of the south -southwest... So its protected from that too... Downpours and Clouds have never cut out my service... Like Shawn and Hypoid, it takes a good bit of snow on the dish to cut it out... Just spray it with some pam cooking spray at the begining of winter and it'll help the snow sluff off...

I have Direct TV, had the lying theiving basturds Comcast and will never go back to them again. Long story short, I went to stop my service and they came to the house stole "MY" modem and everything that goes with it and Had to fight like hell to get it back now they are billing me $798 for a modem I owned outright So I am waiting for them to take me to court for the money and I will show the judge the contract with Comcast showing I own my modem and that the 6 Supervisors even stated that I owed $0 on the account.
As for Direct TV it has been great so far, when I have called customer support for anything it was taking care of rather quickly and friendly service, if anyone is getting a bad signal during cloudy days then their dish is not set up to the best signal that is all it is, Russell it is like when you set up a antenna for a cb. same principle.

I used to have Direct TV for several years & had the signal strength at 98 on my setup. In the 3 years, I only got rainfade once. That afternoon, it darkened so bad it was like night, raining so hard I couldn't see the house across the street. It only lasted about 10 minutes then I got the signal back right then. I liked Direct TV, never had an issue where I had to call them.

At that time, they didn't offer internet. My dad had Adelphia & it was farking fast so I got Adelphia with the same channels I had with D-TV plus internet for $22.00 a month more than I was paying for just tv with D-TV. So when my dialup internet through Qwest cost $34.00 a month, I actually saved money & got waaaaaaaay faster internet. It sure didn't seem like a bad deal at all.

I never had an issue with Comcast (or previously Adelphia). Last year, one cable box freaked out on the display so I called them & asked them what to do. It was a Saturday & they asked if I was going to be home in the next hour & I said yes. In 25 minutes, there was a knock at the door. The cable employee was standing there with a new box & remote & hooked everything up, no charges ever incurred. If the D-TV box freaked out, I'd have to purchase a new one, & pay for the fee for the new activation myself.

If I ever have an issue with them in the future, I'll have to deal with it accordingly. Until then, I have nothing bad to say about Comcast. I'm not promoting them, I'm just explaining my experiences. I like both D-TV & Cable.

I've had Directv for about 10 years with almost no problems, and worked for dish network for a while. Heath is right. Placement of the dish is very important and aiming of the dish is critical too. The person above who had her signal go out in the rain most likely had a dish that wasn't aimed properly.
Think of aiming a dish in increments of minutes on a clock. To move a dish from "12:00" to "12:05" would only be moving the dish an inch or so. But if you extend the plane (or the two imaginary lines between the 12:00 and 12:05 positions) out into space the distance could be hundreds of miles. So an improperly aimed dish that is off by mere inches will have bad reception.
Could the industry fix this? i believe so, but they havent.
Anyway, most people won't have a problem with it.
I had cable back when it was TCI or whatever it was called and will never go back to cable tv again. Same reasons everyone else has stated. I do have comcast internet though.

Talking about cabel TV, did you hear that the first celebrity to get the swine flu was kermit the frog????

BTW, I hate comcast.... I dotn know how they are in the "metro" but here in the mtns, any time they do highway construction, we loose service. Its almost 3-4 times weekly that we go 12 + hours with no internet... Cable up here is fine, i think i have direct tv, it works great , even in 5 foot snow storms~!~~~

I hope everyone gets some version of sattelite TV
Cable companies nationwide are fighting to get sattelite TV outlawed state per state, I hate when we are restricted to make a choice
