As of 1-1-09 Colorado changed the law for anyone selling a motor vehicle they now require the Enhanced Emission test prior to transfer of title.
I have not heard of the enhanced test before going to get new tags for the ranger this week.
Also found out that I have been wasting my time driving thru the Rapid Test for the last year as it does not read emissions on a 4x4 that is lifted and has the exhuast higher than stock height. Bass-tirds always finding a way to stick it to us.

The enhanced test is the one used in Metro Denver & Boulder, so the law only applies there. The seller's always been responsible for the emissions test for title transfer, they just changed the law since the basic idle test is no longer used.

Update: I forgot to add that if the emissions test was done within the previous 12 months prior to the sale, then the vehicle doesn't have to be retested.

hmm that doesn't seem right... every vehicle I've ever bought even if the seller had just done an emission test I had to do an emission test in order to register it, I think they just like it when people pay twice for pretty much the same test. What ever happened to the idea of doing away with emissions tests for newer vehicles? Could've sworn that was being considered at some point.

Gawd, I'm so glad they've elminated that crap down here. The min/max requirements for e-test here in the Springs were so rediculous. All they really seemed to care about was whether or not the emis. control stuff was on your car. I've always thought that the standards should be tighter, and who cares about cat convertors and air pumps and stupid things like that. If the gases coming outta the tail pipe are within limits, what should be all that matters.

Besides, most emis. control components on a car don't contribute much that I've seen. I had my oldF150 while they still did the testing down here, and it didn't pass because of not having a cat. Even though it was WELL within the limits. So I put one on, then it passed, even though th exhaust readings were practically identical to the ones without the cat. Just another way to get us to spend $$$ me thinks.

PS: The cat came off promptly following the e-test anyway.

Interesting, I bought a car that the owner already had the e-test done. With the bill of sale and title, he handed the test form with the sticker still attached. He told me it was good for 120 days, showed me on the form where it said as much. I walked in the county office with paperwork, walked out with a new title and new plates.

I think having that form in your hand is a good selling point.

Sometimes the person and the vehicle registration office has no clue either, so many law changes, nobody can keep up and they just keep our heads spinning so we never figure out what is actually going on.

One little loophole, and I've found this one out with the F250, is if you buy a vehicle from, say Colorado Springs, the seller then is NOT required to do an emissions test. So, if the F250 doesn't pass, basically I'm responsible for it.
