I just took apart the shifter for my t-case, cleaned it up...and what do you know...metal starts falling out. Looks like a busted bushhing i think...maybe it will work without it  ...Ohh well...time to put it back together.

i have had alot of problems with the de-tent and the forks in the t-case. your best bet is to rebuild. cheap and it works better than new. At least with my truck. :D

that is a good question. because the hp could destroy the t-case as well :!:

I have a 79 250..it has a 400 in it that would be worth 303 HP and 456 Ft. lbs at sea level ( so i dont think that HP is the problem)..not great, but ill take it for a 1300 dollar rebuild on the motor. The case is fine it works how it should if i put the truck up on stands and take the shift linkages off, and shift it manually. I realized that the range selector part of the shifter is working how it should, but the "lock" lever is not moving from the shifter...since its not moving, the linkage isnt moving, and with no moving linkage...itss not going to go into lock. It was good news to figure out it is just the shifter. Now i need to find a really cheap shifter assembly for a NP203 T-case..i cant even get one from a pull yard right now

This diagram might help you out some....
The part thats broken is in the Shifter Assmebly (shifter Asm.)
The shifter assembly is separate from the T-Case, but controls the entire operation of the T-Case.
Thanks for trying to help tho, i know its kinda hard to understand without seeing it..lol, especially if you dont know what ive done to figure out that the problem is in the shifter assembly (i knew i should have taken pics) lol
This is what im talking about (http://autozone.com/images/cds/gif/large/0900823d800a83ec.gif)
