I guess I never got around to posting in here when I joined, so I'm doing it now.

Last year('08), I picked up an '87 Ranger 4x4, 2.3L manual, standard cab long bed for $300! The sole purpose of this truck was to go wheeling, since I've had a '92 Ranger extended cab 2WD for awhile now.

Shortly after getting the truck, I cut the fenders and added some very used 33s to it. On the stock 3.73 gears, that made it rather sluggish.

Managed to destroy a driveshaft lthe same day the above picture was taken, resulting in a much stronger one being made at englewood driveshaft:

It is currently getting some brand new, 31" Pro Comp Xtreme M/Ts, and has a CB now(with 9' whip), and alot more rock rash than in the above picture. Plan to swap to 4.56 gears this year, and weld the rear diff to locked. Then I'm going to keep pounding on the little 2.3 and stock axles till they can't take no more! At which point, probably an SAS will happen.

Welcome to the club.

Good way to start, Cheap, $300 is a good deal.

Get out there and have fun and learn. Then slowly modify the rig to suit your needs.

Welcome!

There is a guy on Pirate4x4.com who has the same Ranger and with a small budget has built it to go just about anywhere. Have fun with it and see you on the trails.

Just need to find some fender flares now, and fix the little "glitch" I had while trimming the fenders. :)

I think you will like those for offroading but they suck in light snow and ice if you drive it daily. I got the 33s on mine and after 1 year they are about 1/2 worn down.

Nah, truck sits in the garage most of the time. The red ranger(2wd) is the daily.
