1994 Ranger 4wd. 4.0 Warn manual lock-out hub conversion.

OK... It is not a squeak, more like metal scraping metal. eeh eeh eeh eeh eeh eeh. It only happens if the hubs are locked, or if the t-case is engaged. I noticed it Monday afternoon. I took it out of 4wd, and the noise continued as the truck moved. I stopped the truck, the noise stopped. I unlocked the hubs and started driving, no noise. I engaged the 4wd with the hubs unlocked and it made the same noise.

My 94 explorer did the same thing. I think its a fairly common thing, but it didn't seem to cause any problems... don't know what to tell you, I think it was something with the transfer case....

I have never had it happen to me.... and I am afraid to use the 4wd right now. (good timing huh) I actually had no problems in this snow though. yay.

I think I will go under and un-hook the driveshaft, and then lock the hubs. that will narrow it down to the axle, or the t-case.

I don't think so, but I will look tomorrow. Although we looked under there a little and saw nothing.

also might wanna check the front diff fluid while your down there if you have gotten in to some water it could have washed out cause of water getting in through the vent tube ( not shure if your model hase vent tubes )

My explorer did the same thing to me a few months ago. I totally took apart the front axle, hub to hub, and rebuilt it. I don't know what was wrong, but that fixed it. LOTS of work!

well, I had it all apart a few weeks ago. replaced wheel bearings, the spindle hub bearings and seals, the axle seals. U-joints looked fine so we left them .

replaced calipers, pads, upper lower ball joints, inner/outer tie rod ends, radius arm bushings, if I touched it, I replaced it.
