It's that time again... to decide if we want to adopt Saxon Mountain Trail again in 2009.
I know that as club pres, I haven't really done the best job with this trail adoption... I haven't done the whole trail in at least a year or two as I haven't really had any vehicles capable of four-wheeling lately and my schedule has been crazy, but I do appreciate the members who have been able to do it and get in trail monitoring forms and so forth.
Typically, it is fairly easy - just picking up trash, making sure there are no unauthorized offshoots, and checking for major trail damage and helping make any repairs that might be necessary (so far that hasn't really happened in the few years we've adopted it). We are required to do it twice at least twice a year, but more is recommended.
Anyways, would like to get everyones opinions on whether they'd like to continue or not. The forest service would like to know as soon as possible.

I say keep it, it guarantees that we make at least two runs a year out there, plus its good PR for the club.

Dump the nasty ass bitch of a trail. She will reach out and grab you if you're not careful.

Is it just Saxon Mountain or do we cover the attached trails too?
Spring Gulch, Spring Creek, Trail Creek, Ute Creek and Cascade Creek

We cover the trail once it becomes forest service land, so essentially the switchbacks on the georgetown side are more the counties problem, but I know we still pick up trash and stuff, because I hate seeing trash on this pristine trail :).
There is the offshoot that goes off that is highlighted on the map, we camped out that way one year, is technically ours though its not very well travelled and I don't think I've ever seen much trash or traffic on it aside from a few ATV's.
As far as whether a stocker can do it, it can, at least last time I did the trail... the trail will beat you up a bit with rocky mountain pinstriping and a lot of bouncing around back and forth, but it's not a trail that requires a lift necessarily... though I have hit several parts of my undercarriage when riding stock... :)

Do ya spose the Forest Service will allow us to put up a more durable sign for the club???

I'm sure if we foot the bill for it, they'd allow it... of course the more durable signs sometimes end up being targets...

I have the steel, I just need to get a club logo resized to fit.

It's 7/8" mild steel: Bottom draft gear cover off a freight car. :D
My guess is that it will be surface treated with lead and never rust.
Actually, there is enough talent on this board to get the logo re-sized to fit. I'll have to get actual measurements for that. I'm hoping to make a stencil that I can use to lay out and mark the steel before I light a torch.
