Kristen and I went to Salida last Saturday night to a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Banquet. We were setting there after the meal, and the live auction was going on. I told Kristen I need to go potty and check my blood sugars and take a shot. I showed her where my ticket stubs were(they have raffles going on the whole time). When I was coming out of the bathroom, she was going into the back. We had won the banquet rifle. Its a Marlin 45/70. I have been trying to win one all year. This is the second banquet rifle I have won in Salida( I won a Winchester 1894, 44mag in 2003). Now wait for it. The CBI site is clogged with background checks, so we had to wait till Monday to pick it up. I go into the gun shop here in Canon on Monday morning with my father and sister(my sister won a Browning A-bolt, 338mag& my dad had won a 7mm mag). The owner of the shop tells me I just got 2 Russian made AK-47's in and one is already sold. He also said this was the last assault weapons he would get for about 4 months. We were messing around waiting for the backgrounds to clear, so I told the owner I wanted to see one of the AK's. He pulls it out, I eyeball it for a while and then tell him I really can't. Heres where it gets cool. At lunch time Kristen calls and says she picked up the 45/70. I tell her about the AK. She says "well if you want it you better go get it." I'm out the door before she can hang up. So all in all the family won about 7 guns total in Salida, (my daughter won a Pellet gun as well, my dad, sister, aunt and uncle and myself/wife) and I ended up with a new AK-47. I will get some pics up soon.........

the AK is 5.56x45(.223 Remmington) and shoots sweet(more control than my AR), but dings up the brass when it ejects it. I ordered a new collapsible stock for my AR, so when that comes in I will do a little work to the AK.......

the 45/70 is amazing! wow! congrats on winning it!

now the "AK" is it really an AK? fully auto? who makes it? the .223 and looks remind my of my Siaga which is a civi knock-off of the AK in .223. j/w

Its is the Saiga, so Yeah its the civilian model. But just like the AR's are not really M-16's. But right now with everything going on and a new President getting ready to take over, who knows what will happen with assault rifles(I know I'm just another doomsday follower, lol).....

oh yeah its a fun little gun...chews up the brass though and stay away from the 30rd mags...they jam a lot/cause double feeds...and we all know how much of a bitch it is to clear a jam on an AK....but good stuff! pretty good for varminting
