Okay Im running the Pro Comp Xtreme Mud Terrain Radials 265/75/16s and they are great offroad but they really suck during the winter and especailly on ice.
So here is my question to everyone what tires do you run during the winter that get decent traction on ice? I drive 34 miles one way to and from work at night and need something good. And is anyone running Dick Cepek tires? And how are they working out?

The best I have ever found for winter driving was the BFG AT's. I had a set on my old 3/4 ton, in Gunnison, and never had any trouble with them.

I know people say the BFG MTR are bad but I don't seem to have any problems with them.

BFG AT's
X2, even though I do not use them now, they have been the best tire in snow and ice out of the different tires I've used.

yeah I think the BFG A/T's were the best I ever used in snow and ice, and the tread life was good... as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. Buy a cheap tire, you'll get cheap performance. If what you want is a cheap tire that is fine, it'll work but I never had any tire that matched how the BFG's performed... and I've had lots of different sets of tires :).

Ok so after pricing new tires and with Christmas around the corner, I am going to go the route of keeping my Goodyear Wranglers on stock wheels for now but want to get the siping done on them, Does anyone know where to go to have that done, any tire stores imparticular?

I think most any tire store would Sean, just have to call around.
Another vote for the A/Ts. My buddy in the silver XJ made the ice hill after we cut a trench to keep our back end on the road.

Thanks Mike, I found a few types of tires at reasonable prices online while at work last night so I may check them out. I looked at the Nitto terra Grapplers NTGATs nice tires but a lil above what I want to spend right now. Cooper & Hankook have some nice winter tires for a decent price between $98 & $102. I have Hankooks on the Focus and they do really well on ice.

I would suggest dedicated winter tires and wheels. You can get the set pretty cheap from tire rack, all mounted and balanced with any hardware needed to bolt them up. Then you can run your M/Ts in the summer and have the very best of both worlds. Winter tires are truly amazing. They get as much grip from the compound as they do from the tread and make a huge difference on dry pavement when temps are very cold too. The rubber compound in normal tires gets very hard and does not grip well when cold.

I use Mickey Thompson tires. Atx or mtx or something like that. I've been really impressed with how they work in the snow/ice.
One thing I would recommend is keeping an eye on CraigsList.
I got my tires (35x12.50-15) from a guy that started a project and the ol'lady was making him get rid of it. I got the tires for $500,complete with an old pair of aluminum chevy rims which I later sold. The tires still had the little nipples on the tread since they were only used to roll the truck in and out of the garage.
Deals like that are still out there. You just have to have patience and be fast to respond to the good offers when they pop up.
Just my two cents.

I am running Baja Claws on my truck, and I love them. I tow real heavy with them, and they wear great. I got my trailer jack knived in Montana, in a snow/ice storm. Locked both axles, and the Baja Claws pulled me right out. I bought them as blems of off ebay. I'll be darned to find the actual blems on them, and I got them for less than half of new. Better than my wholesale price. Most manufactures will not sell blems that affect performance, they are generally just cosmetic.
I was trying to find a close up of them, but this is the best I have.

That F350 is a sweet looking truck! Yeah I have been watching CL and its just my luck that when the deals pop up I don't have the funds and when I do the deals are not up. I was going to get started on the tires this week but I ended spending the money at O'meara for some repair work instead. That hurt! I was hoping it would have been covered under the warranty but no such luck this time. So it is going to have to wait until I get my bonus for the year.

Thanks, But I think I will keep it. I Actually did a photo shoot for Diesel Power mag during Truck Fest. I am not sure when it is going to be in the mag though. I keep seeing trucks that were shot at the same time mine was, but still haven't seen mine. The antipation is killing me.
I can't say enough good things about my new Nokian WR SUV tires. They're made in Finland and are amazing! I don't think I've ever really raved about tire performance until now. Probably wouldn't be a great off-road tire, but they are all-season and the tread is supposed to be good for around 50,000 miles. They're also siped in a unique way so as to preserve stiffness and longevity - but this siping also makes the tires seemingly "stick" to ice.
The tread pattern has also been excellent at expelling water and slush. These tires have made my "cute ute" feel much more capable. I rarely feel the ABS engage when stopping on ice (even on hills) and the traction control system on my CX-7 has also rarely had to engage. As Matt said, however, you do seem to get what you pay for. These weren't cheap tires - but so far - they've been worth every penny!

Well the snow shoes for my ranger are on hold yet again, I bought my oldest son some new shoes for his 90 ranger for his birthday next week, he was driving on some bald tires luckily he has not been in an accident. Its gonna be after the first of the year before I get them so for now just got to drive a lot more cautious until then.

:headbanger:Dude, that truck is damn sexy. Almost my dream truck.
As far as the winter tires go, I am 100 percent happy with my BFG AT's as well. I ran some 31x10.50's for 5 years, and through that blizzard back in 06. They did extremely well. Now I am running them in 33x12.50's and couldn't be happier.
A friend of mine is running the Nitto Terra Grapplers, and seems to be happy with them too.

Ok here is an update, I learned yesterday if you are buying snow tires the laws have changed; for a 4x4 they can only sell you four not just two tires, for a front wheel drive they have to put them on the back, and for rear wheel drive they have to put them on the front all this if just buying 2 tires. They showed me it in black and white, cause so many people do not know this has changed.
Anyhoots I came home took my stock wheels back off and found the 2 worst tires and went back and bought 2 Bridgstone/Firestone Winterforce UVs so I could at least have 2 good tires on the front, but as I soon discovered these even tho the same size where still 1" taller than the old Goodyear Wrangler RTS's. So now I am back with my Pro comps on there until I get the other 2 tires.
