I might have a shot at becoming a mechanic for the County up here, which would be really good. Would learn alot of things I want to learn...and make decent money doing it. The guy whos spot I might get just got a job with a race team that races NASCAR, and is a friend of mine and my stepdads..Im gonna use him as a reference to try n' get his job  . If I interview good, I might just transfer over there from where I am now. Guess me getting my CDL permit was a good move, because I will need it if i get this job, and i got the right endorsments, and the right class on it, and had the restrictions removed that i needed removed too...this just might work out how i was hoping it would about 8 months ago.

Sounds excellent. Only problem I've heard about, but haven't seen, is that you get so sick of working on vehicles that you end up driving a hunk of crap. All the tech's at my work drive nice vehicles.

If I get the job, Id be working on transit busses, and road and bridge trucks...working on my truck n' car will still be a relief from work. Dropped the app o th bosses desk today, im gonna study up about electrical systems and hydraulic systems this weekend, just so i know a little about those things. Tadays a good day, put new free tires on my truck, and theyre smooth ( smooth for studded snows i guess, and i like the noise ), fixed my transfer case, now i might tune the carb in, and set the timing dead nuts on..

If im ever down in Denver, ill take you up on your offer for sure...ill learn all i can. I looked at some of the diagrams and schematics for the busses up there today, i have alot tolearn. But so far its fun to be diggin out the basics of everything. Saw a few pretty cool things today while up there..guess the recycling guys rolled an f350 not too long ago, so i crawled around it. Hopefully ill know by next friday if i got the job...The guy id be working with knows alot about mechanical work and these busses, which will help me alot. The electrical systems on these things are crazy though.

So does this job include a shop/garage?? :) if so we might have a new place to have mod parties at. only if the drive wasn't soo far.

Its a big ass shop and garage, has everything anyone could need, but its the governments, and they frown on people not i n that department using it for anything, so im thinking of talkin to my friend who has a shop up here, and seein if he would let us use his shop on ocassion

The boss handed me the test they give people during the interviews and told me to bring it back to him on Tuesday ( let me take it home). I told him Id answer the ones i know off hand, which was about 70% of em, and the rest id mark so he knew i looked up the answers somewhere. Told him even if I dont get the job, atleast Ill know more than i did before i applied for it. Common sense would tell me that the person with the experience got the job, but who knows...i think i interview pretty good. I told them that if I get the job, id be there till im forced to retire, told them im interested in schooling and training (pointed out that i got State Certified for my current job, and its only seasonal..) Who knows, id have a job driving a bus for the County entity that gives Fleet about 85% of thier work if i dont get this job...but im damn hoping to get it. Brought up alot of the work and research ive been doing on my 53, and my 79, and that seemed to impress them some. I could go on for a while, but on Tuesday, im going back to talk to the boss of Fleet again, and ill have my test, all my resources, and hopefully some related things and topics im looking up anyways...such as trade school classes, and related course information thats offered by the college up there, show them im serious about learning. They gave me alot of shit..lol...about working at a sewage treatment plant..

if bettery output changes as the temp. of the battery increases..
what an alternator diode is used as
how excessive heat effects a alternator...
what a series parallel switch does
kingpin fittament
tie rod ends alignment procedure...worn bushings in tandem rear axle suspension...what should be used to determine tooth contact in a ring and pinionadjustment procedure of a drive axle overhaul...
what cleaning solvent to use to clean hydraulic brake parts...
leaking master cylindars

and a shit ton more about clutches, trannies, firing orders of inline 6'ers..air brakes, hydraulics, tools, and cooling systems, but i wanna learn it all, so i guess even if i dont get the job..its all worth it somehow.

Yeah dont be discouraged. years ago when I was getting ready to enter the real workforce, I went to a job interview, gave them a number much higher then I thought I was worth, was just using it as a test interview... long story short, I've been there 6 1/2 years. Sometimes things work out, so keep trying if its what you really want :)

"look, I swear, the turbo hose just blew off the bus in this blizzard...ill be sitting in the bus, where its almost too hot.....did you guys do some work to the heater, it works really good....ohh, ill watch you fix it in the mirrors though...HAVE FUN..lol

If nothing else, learn from the interview on the types of questions they asked. Going to interviews is a learning experience by itself.

they tought us in our intro class.. that the person that gets the job is the person best at GETTING the job.. not allways the best person FOR the job... just learn like he said...... tell em what they want to hear! plus maybe this job wasnt the best for you... ull find something great and be like matt 6 years later ull be remebering this, and be thankfull u didnt get it... or maybe not... but lets hope u will..

Or be like me 6 1/2 years later wondering why I work where I do. By the way today was a great day at work. Nothing like Cory getting yelled at over the cell phone while we were downtown in one of the tall buildings, so dipshit hands me his cell phone and walks off while I get my ass chewed out.

That sucks you didn't get the job, but it sounds like you learned from the process. I could get most of the answers correct from your list if they were multiple choice. I got A's on all those tests, but if you don't use it every day, it gets fuzzy.
