View Full Version : The Great Debate - VP Style...

So, I'm still not sure who will be getting my vote come November - still leaning toward Obama, honestly.

That said, however, I really, really, really hope that Sarah Palin wipes the floor with Joe Biden tonight. If for no other reason than it'll shut up some of these dolts who claim she's "not qualified" and even allude to her being less than smart. Please. Meanwhile, Joe "Gaffe Machine" Biden gets a complete pass for the ridiculous comments he makes - some of which are offensive.

Anyway, should be an interesting debate tonight. I encourage everyone to post their thoughts here, both before and after the debate goes down...

Tina Fey does a great Sarah Palin :).

You know, she does, and I knew she would - but I sometimes find it difficult to laugh at - especially last week. Underneath the laughter, it's very obvious that Fey can't stand Palin and - to me - her parody has a harsher tone than many others I've seen them do (even of W).

Oh well, who knew it was a bunch of liberals running SNL... ;):p

Oh yeah - and where's the parody of Biden? If ever there was a goofy doofus begging to be made fun of, it's him...

I'm one of those "dolts"
I think Palin's an un-educated moron and I'm sick of the right-wing nut-jobs saying people are being unfair when anyone asks her a question.
For christs sake, shes the person who may be running the country some day! Why should ANY question, as long as it pertains to politics and/or the presidency be off limits? At this point I don't know if it was just her handlers that sent her into her previous interviews unprepared or if she really is that unprepared in reality, but either way, I'm not impressed.
I'm trying to reserve judgement until the debates, but I suspect the real reason the campaign has kept her so far away from the press is that they know shes an idiot and are trying to keep her from showing it more than she already has.

I think right now, the only thing that's saving her is that Obama seems to have picked an even bigger idiot than her as his running mate.

I will definately say that I seemed shocked when McCain chose Palen, especially when considering some of the great choices he had. She is very likeable as a person, and even as a senator... but as the potential leader of the country... some of her responses to questions make me wonder what McCain was really thinking.
Of course some of the questions being asked of her are pretty stupid, and I could tell fromw atching parts of the katie couric interview, that katie really wanted to make her look stupid... and parts were blown way out of proportion, like her asking what she reads and insisting on specific examples of what she reads... well WTF does it matter if she reads People Magazine or the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Times or the Houston Chronicle... shit!

Would you expect anything less from the media? Its so obvious they want him to win that its sick.

Amy and I saw this tonight on Nightly News - I kept waiting for the "but..." in the story. Of course, it never came. It's basically a 2+ minute campaign ad for Obama.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/26997791#26997791

Supposedly they gave the same "puff piece" treatment for McCain - I'm dubious - and it's not easily found on their website. And any J-school dropout knows - if you're going to run a favorable story on one candidate, you run one on the other THE SAME NIGHT. Not days later. Not a week later. Ugh, it amazes me the lack of balance - and the media doesn't even seem to care any more.

Oh well, they may just end up losing it for Obama as people like me get angrier and angrier at their obvious lack of balance. Don't even get me started on the Hollywood crowd.

I'm still waiting (and hoping) for a good showing by Palin - in about 45 minutes... ;)

i listened to it on the radio. I thank she did well but stated vary little. She had a great opertunity to slam Bidin at one point with the deregulation stuff but missed it. Clinton proposed and got passed the banking dereg's when he was POTUS. oh well nether one impressed me much. but I did thank Bidin was pantranising with his "let me say this again" crap.

Yeah, I don't think she "hit it out of the park" by any means - some of her answers just didn't make any sense! I also agree that she missed many opportunities. But she didn't do too horribly either; nor did Biden. I think it was close to a draw, though you could tell Biden had debated many more times before and was very well prepared with statistics.

Oh well, there goes my hope that people will shut up about how "unprepared" Palin is. Guess it doesn't really matter in the end. As for me, I'm actually still leaning Obama because I really do think we need a big change. Hopefully - should he end up getting my vote - I won't regret it...

I don't think either side impressed me much, but didn't disappoint me much either. I thought Palin seemed a little nervous and like most of what she said was heavily rehearsed, but either way...
There were several possible drinking games, if we'd thought ahead...
"Greed and corruption on wall street"
"Alaska"
"Nucular"

Several others Courtney and I kept noticing over and over, almost wanted to tell her stop talking about freaking alaska, you aren't running for governor of alaska, you are running for vice president of the united states!

You forgot: "maverick," and "John McCain." The latter could've scored points from both Palin AND Biden! :D

Maverick, that's the one I was thinking of... that got freakin sick of that pretty quick!

Well, I watched it, and I have to say, I was impressed with Palin. I think my being impressed only has to do with the fact that my standards for her were so low that if she walked out onstage and wasn't drooling and getting distracted by small shiny objects, I would have been impressed. :)
Seriously, though, it was obvious that she had done A LOT of studying and for the most part I think the campaign did a good job of preping her.
I do feel most of her responses were too scripted.
And that whole "folksy" thing she was trying to pull off got annoying really fast. I was impressed with how she could turn her accent on and off at will.
Now for Biden... I think he was ok... but just ok. I think he fell into that whole "you gotta be careful debating a woman" bullshit and it cost him some points with me. I like how he discredited the "maverick" crap on several points.

All in all, I think it was a draw.
I'm still voting Obama. Not because he's my favorite person... I'm forced to go with the "lesser of the two weasels" voting method.

Yeah, but do you think Alaska is a "energy bearing state"? C'mon Sarah move on to the issues(or questions) at hand. I did like the comment to Biden, "C'mon Joe, quit looking to the past"(or however she said it). Gonna be a tough race this year, especially cause of the economic state of the country. I still think Ron Jeremy for pres, and Chasey Lain for VP. If we're gonna get screwed, I want it done by professionals.

Matt she is a Governor though, not a Senator. I didn't get to see it.

Cheers

in general neither of th eprsidential candidates to the table IMO. The great thing is with our checks and balances system the damage either one of them can do is limited at least :)

[pet peeve]Along with Palin saying "maverick" at every opportunity, I am SO SICK of hearing people say some derivative of the following:

1) "Guess I'd have to choose the lesser of two evils. I don't like either one of them."
2) "Too bad we don't have a good choice for president this year, they both suck."

Especially when it's followed by: "I might as well just not vote."

OK, we get it. And - for the record - unless YOU are running for president, there will probably NEVER be a candidate that you agree with 100% on every issue. Just like I'm not a 100% perfect spouse (damn close, though). Or my life isn't going 100% the way I'd like it to (I still don't have a jet). The point is, just examine the candidates, find the one who most closely represents your values/issues and then VOTE FOR THEM - or don't - but enough with the bitching!

I think we actually have two very solid choices (more if you like either of the 3rd party guys) for president this year. The point is, voting is a privilege of our great country - use it! :)[/pet peeve]

REMINDER: Last day to register to vote is this Monday, October 6th!

I find it interesting that we the tax payers choose the Pres. We get canned information for the media (good or bad) to make our decision but have no real idea of what it even takes to run the country. Does it take a soccer mom or a career politician? What are the nuts and bolts of the "Job" of being a president? If you where going to hire someone to work for you wouldn't you be more thorough and really know who that person is and for that matter you would know what is needed for the job.

The point I am making is what qualifications do we have to elect this position. Come on I know this is our right, but do we really do what we think or are we just going along with what makes us "feel" good. Whether it is moral reasons or personnal freedom reasons or because someone told us it is the "right" choice.

I see this in my job. I work for tax payers and I hear people say that gov employees don't do anything and milk it. Well let me tell you the guys that work for me do a very good and productive job. But people will still think they know how to do their and my job better.

Again the point I'm making is we are given this task and most of us have no idea what it takes.

this is why the political party is supposed to do the job of selecting a qualified candidate and we the people are suposed to know what the political party stands for, NOW these political parties have gone astray from their own ideas to who they are. I have always been a Republican because the republican party was the type of party I always believed in. small government, less taxes...) well they are so much more left wing now than they ever have been. Hence the newer smaller parties the Media has hidden from us. God bless the information superhighway! NO MORE LIES!

today anyone that even hears of "another" party will just deny it and turn their head, so much brainwashing over the past 80 years they cant even accept the fact there IS a better choice.
