Might be a weird question for everyone .. but I have recently started to notice when I turn a corner at low speeds and am going over a bump at the same time .. I hear a CLUNK from the rear of the vehicle.

I jacked the rear of the truck up and checked everything I could think of .. brakes, drive shaft, rear end grease, shocks and springs etc... and everything seems to be tight

however, as I was jacked up off the ground .. I tried to move the wheel up and down to see/hear my noise and noticed when the tires would engage (turn) I could hear the clunk in a very light manner .. so-- I started turning the wheel back and forth and noticed about 1/2" or so play before the rear end seemed to 'engage' ..

so long story short .. my question is this ...

how much play is quote/unquote "supposed" to be in the rear end ... etc

thanks in advance .. and feel free to ask specific questions about what I have going on ..

Sounds like bad situation to me. A half inch isn't terrible but I think it is more than I expect. I'm no mechanic but I have installed a full locker in my rear pumpkin so I know a thing or two about setting gears etc.

I was inspecting the rear end again today after my "fun" monday and noticed the last leaf of my springs on the right rear actually has about 1/4-1/2 inch gap .. where as the left one has NONE..

maybe this is what I'm hearing when I collapse that leaf spring just right on a bump??

Probably that is what's happening-- whenever you bump over something, those leafs probably smack each other causing a clunck
