View Full Version : New goal

Just set a new goal of running the truck in the 13's before the end of this race season. Just thought i would put it up here, so either i look like a fool when it doesnt happen, or....:thumbsup:

or you accidentally make a 12 second pass and say WTF?
Glass

12's are the real goal i am setting with myself shawn.... 13's are just the goal i am setting in public lol. Going to use the same engine as it sits now with just some head work and a few tricks i came up with in my dreams the other night ( am a genius when i am unconscience ). If i get it to run low 15's or high 14's on just motor, i am going to put the 100 shot of nitrous on it and buy some 30" tall slicks and go for the 13's or very very very high 12's.. like a 12.99999999

I am going to do some work to improve velocity, not flow. Increase velocity from the carb to the mufflers.

in the port or combustion chamber?
Glass
07-03-2008, 11:53 PM
Ports. I am also going to try something that i will tell you about in a PM... because it might make it very consistant and help power also.........
The shop i am working at now is pretty cool, and the guy who owns it has a ton of tools to do almost anything. we are going to set my truck up using some of his knowledge, and a few of my ideas, then when we finish my truck we are gonna do some head work to his cummins.

"Cummins" cant be said?

Sorry I have not been on here forever, been a little side tracked with Golf, lol. Let me get this right, you have a truck now not even running in the 15's and IF you can get it to run into the 15's you think a 100 shot of NOS, Different Tires and you are going to run into the 13's and maybe into the 12's ? Is this at Bandimere you are talking about ?

Ohh hey Shawn.. Funny thing about this last weekend at truckfest, the truck was running 85 MPH.. when i was running my 14.3's i was only running 92 MPH. I think i will def. have to get taller slicks to get close to 100 MPH with nitorus in the fall. All year the truck has been running 16.5's at 81-82 MPH. After the carb work i got bored and did before last weekend the truck dropped down to 16.1's. I guess i have done all the carb work i can... Went from 18.97 3 years ago to 16.14 last weekend without buying a single part for the truck.

Ohh and im not going to run a 100 shot of NOS. NOS is a brand name, they sell nitrous kits, energy drinks, seat covers, etc. I will be using a 100 shot of nitrous...(N2O).

Right now is 26x10.5x16 MT DOT. I will need atleast 30x11.5 to be able to have enough top end in the truck for a 13 second pass. The additional 4" shouldnt hurt the low end a ton, the engine has tons of torque, especially with the nitrous. It was pulling mid 1.9 second 60's with the 100 shot lol, and its 6000 pounds with an open diff.
I am going to try to stay with an open diff, but if it just doesnt work i will fix that.

07-28-2008, 09:25 AM
damn John that is such a short tire on that truck. your right atleast a 30 x 11.50 Maybe even a 31 I guess you could do the math RPMs vs vehicle speed compared to tire rotation but I cant remember how LOL
Glass
07-28-2008, 10:49 PM
Im going to do the math so that at 100 MPH i am at 4550 RPM and go with that size dot slick. just off the top of my brain i would think that would require a 30 x 11.5 16 ... maybe just a hair taller than a 30" but 30" would suffice.

Found an old single plane intake a guy who GAVE me a ford 400 shortblock had... i put it on the truck.. the bottom end dropped off a little bit, but i have more top end than ever before and it is still building power until it gets too lean, which is around 4800. I thinki need to subtract some timing, and add some fuel (hopefully the carb is big enough, in theory and according to math it is) to get the lean popping / misses to stop.
I am hoping i can find a nitrous line to use this friday and see what it does on the track now! If not ill just run with no nitrous and run slower than before lol.

The truck ran the same with nitrous, set up like it is now. 14.3's and 14.41-14.42. But i did get a runner up trophy, it can go in the pile with the semi-finalist trophies i have got this year.

John, you are a whore
John was the only one to have a good night last night.
I wasn't feeling it at all. The truck ran 2 tenths slower than usual first time trial, ok no big deal, we can adjust.
Ran my second time trial to run an 18.68, typically the truck runs a 18.72-18.76, so it was running a little faster... then the rain came in, messed up the air, so I watched people to see what they were running and if they were breaking out. Not many critical breakouts.... until I came up.
I had a crappy light, .261, dialed an 18.70, where I always dial, and proceeded to run an 18.44. Needless to say I was pretty pissed about it. I can understand 1 tenth or so, but 3 tenths off my dial not only makes me look like a sandbagger, but is such a far margin off... it was just frustrating.

I just got home from bowling i started a teamfor tuesday nights, anyways I dont care what other peope say as long as your doing what workd, (you fit right in with the othr CDR members that got me to join) CDR and newbold, I wont mention any names lol when other racers lose to a person they dont know ( nobody) they come up with excuses (shit talk) the cant handle or accept the fact that the person they have gotten beaten by has been racing for a long time and deserves them wins, just like they did. as in any competition you either win or you dont but when you do, youll have to deal with sarcasm and criticism. I could care less as to what you drive as long as you do good ( Lane Weber is a perfect example) I can only wish I had the time to work on my reaction times and the tree like others and have a consistent vehicle, which is not my slow pos , sorry for the long reply I went bowling with my installer and his wife and my typing skills are horrible. as I said before good job you have done well and Earned them trophys no matter what anyone else says, Bandi thinks you deserve them so do I and NHRA

I got the truck to run a 14.103 at 89 MPH sunday lol....
Still turning the nitrous off at the thousand foot mark, and thats the reason for the low MPH. Now the search will be on for a set of taller slicks, and then hopefully will be able to make a full nitorus pass and hit the 13's easily.
The truck was going thru spark plugs like crazy friday night, so i adjusted the carb just a little more and it seems to be lovin it now.

They started making a 28x11.5x16" DOT slick. I am going to switch to these from my 26x10.5x16's for next season.
13.99 here i come...
MSD also is making a pretty affordable digital ignition box now, which is programmable, and has a ton of neat options on it for burnout rev limiter, starting line rev limiter, top end rev limiter, aswell as custom timing curves. I am going to use a MAP sensor and graph out an advance curve with the MAP sensor to get rid of my vacuum advance, but still have the same timing i would have with vacuum advance. Should be a pretty sweet setup.
The truck is also getting all new sheet metal in the rusty spots, and will be primered again, and maybe even painted by the time race season comes.
If i have enough money left over, i am also going to do a cam swap and some other smallll stuff to it.

The 2-step is very fun lol.....
I wired it into a microswitch and built a mount to activate it off my brake pedal when i am staged.... Power to the microswitch is coming from a toggle switch, so during normal driving and normal braking the 2-step will never activate.

Im gonna be racing with a bunch of people closer to my age, and t hey are really really good racers....
I already like the MSD setup, the 6al2 box is great...Alot easier starting when its cold, hot, whenever... I am glad i went with this box instead of jsut the 6al box..
Now that i have a reliable ignition system, im going to mess with my fuel system over the next few weeks and put my better pump and filter on it... The holley blue pump, my pressure regulator, and the huge mallory canister fuel filter i have. Im also going to re-do the entire fuel line form inside the tank (pickup) all the way to the carb in 1/2" or 3/8" line so i know my fuel flow and pressure will be reliable.
Only a few small things to do, the new slicks, going to replace my copper oil pressure line with a braided line so it is less prone to leak, and then finish up the body work and re-painting of alot of the stuff under the truck and under the hood.
I also need to find some other stuff for racing, small set of temp, humidity, and barometric pressure gauges, an ait bomb, and a good log track book and a accurate tire pressure gauge, and a new jack lol....

lol I dont know what the 6al2 has the 6al doesnt, but I have no problem with my 6al. I do know when ya get into the more higher tech 7 level digitals there are problems with them at times. I am running the pro billet dist, 6 al and blaster II coil with a holley Red.
I have to move my fuel line because I thought it would look cleaner if it ran across the cross member which is right below the back of engine and just underneath the firewall, so the line comes up from behind the engine instead of in front. and it doesl ook much cleaner, but Tech may not like that... so I... have... a ... plan...
Glass
03-07-2009, 10:18 PM
The 6al2 is a digital box, the 6al is an analog box. The 6al2 also has a built in 2-step, and the top end rev-limiter which are both set with dials instead of plug in pills....
Pretty much the same as the 6al, just with what i mentioned above...
I got it because by the time i was to buy a 6al, a 2-step module, and all the plug in pill packs i would need, it would have cost more than this box....
The fuel line should be good aslong as wherever you put it isnt in the bellhousing area, or is shielded. I know what oyu are talking about, you basically put the fuel line on the carb with the barb facing toward the firewall instead of pointing to the radiator, it looks alot better.
my line will still be ran in the stock route, just a little bigger.
You gonna have the truck ready to run this season?
Ohh, and by the way, i have to say that On-Track matched , or beat Summit and Jegs on the pricing of all of my MSD ignition parts.
shawns 64 F100
03-07-2009, 10:27 PM
the plug ins came with my 6Al I would have to buy specific ones if the general RPM limiters arent feasable. only thing I would need otherwise is the two step. the fuel line is right where bell housing is, so yes it needs to be moved. the crossmember runs along under the bell housing bc that is where the rear engine mounts were, they actually were bell mounts with one front engine mount since it is an open front end up to 1964, funny how old technology always comes back
no truck will not be ready. I am not even close
cool deal for on track, I have never bought anything from summit of jegs, I find it better to buy it locally and cheaper, plus it goes home with me when purchased, and if it is wrong I can take it back right away
