Mom goes for kidney transplant

Well we got the call a few hours ago and my mom is going in for a kidney transplant early this morning. This will be her second time. Her last kidney transplant was rejected a year ago, after about a year after the last transplant.

Surgery went good this morning. She is currently in ICU and probably will be for a little while since she has multiple illnesses and takes many medications that they must control.

Here's the latest as of this evening.

The new kidney started out working like gang busters, but I think it was Monday, there were signs that there was a problem developing. The kidney started to shut down. Late yesterday, mom had a bad reaction to one or some of the medications and they had to put her back into ICU where she is, but tonight she is physically doing fine. The kidney on the other hand does not look like it's going to work, but the doctors are still using medications trying to "jump start" it. If the kidney does not work, mom will go back on to dialysis Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights like she was doing before.

Well now the kidney is showing some signs of life, so it may work after all. Doctors have said that the immediate future of kidney looks good, but they will keep her on dialysis for few days so the kidney does not get over worked and gives it time to get acclimated with it's new home.
