View Full Version : 91 Ford Explorer parts truck $400

My buddy has a 91 Ford Explorer 2 door that he wants gone. He used some parts off it to fix another one that was wrecked in the passenger side front so the fender, and front clip is off it. He also switched the suspension stuff around so it has the bent parts under the right front. The 4.0 runs good in it. It has a 5 speed in it but the syncro's are trashed in it in 4th gear. Odometer reads 58k, we think its probably 158k. I figured it could be a good motor swap/donor rig for someone that wants a complete swap. Anyone can hear it run. He is just off I-25 at the Loveland exit. It would need to be towed though. I don't think he has a title for it either so thats why it is parts. His name is Rob and if anyone wants to call him his number is 970-214-9874. I could probably answer any questions about it through here too. :)

Went and looked at this yesterday, and I'm going to buy it. The engine runs strong and starts right up. For $400, nto only do I get the engine, but the D35 & 8.8 rear. All the synchros in the tranny are shot, but it'll get up on a car carrier for the trip to its disection place. Going to try and get it next weekend.

Now that I'm going to buy it, I need a place to store it and strip it down. Anyone here got some extra space I can borrow for a while so I can tear it down? If I could get the BII there as well that would be a bonus. I'm willing to pay rent, would rather pay someone here than the storage place I'm paying for now.

Sounds like a pretty good deal Rich. You also get the ECU & wire harness.

rwmorrisonjr
05-26-2008, 08:24 PM
Bronc, that would work as long as the weather cooperates. Might also see if I can take it over to my m-i-l's place and park it there since she has a paved lot. Want to get it closer to Castle Rock since that's where the transplant recipient is.

Allright, the Ex is mine, just paid Rob today for it. He's okay with letting it sit there for a while, so I'm planning on picking it up sometime during the next several weeks.

Now I need some help with pulling the motor and stripping it. In addition to the motor, I'm going to take both axles (D35, 8.8) for future upgrades. I'm also willing to part out the majority of the truck, including the interior, bolt-on body parts, glass, transfer case and anything else people want. The tranny's about to grenade, so don't ask for it, its not worth taking.

If there's someone down south that wouldn't mind helping me with pulling the engines out of both trucks and has a place where we can do it, I'd be eternally grateful (read: lots of beer to start) for the help. Post here if you can give me a hand with this. South includes NW Denver since the Ex is in Loveland.

James, that might work for the Ex since the BII already has a place to live. Neither truck is licensed so they can't live on the street, but if I could bring the Ex down, strip it and then dump the shell, then bring up the BII for the swap, that would be great. Plus I'd have an excuse to hit the Pull-n-Save for the fuel lines that I need for the swap. Call or PM me about your plans over the next several weekends so we can set this up.

Okay, here's the tentative plan: going to rent a trailer, pick up the Ex and get it to James' place next Saturday, then start stripping it down that weekend so that I can get rid of the Ex as quickly as possible. If anyone's up for helping out, let me know so we can get coordinated.

Painter the Mother is very cool. The 3 Chiwawas are unpredictable to say the least .They will bark. And they do bite .they do not listen to Me or My wife .I love them to death. No one's volunteered to go with me yet. I'm picking up the trailer at the Uhaul at Colfax & 225 at 0900 (or ealier) on Saturday, want to have the truck at James' by noon so I can dump the trailer and start working on the engine pull. Not planning on working on Sunday since that's usually a family day, but with 3-4 people it shouldn't take too long to pull the engine. The axles are another story, not going to worry about it now.

I may have given the wrong impression My dogs with Me are the sweetest animals on the planit .I dont take them out much and they are not acustomed to visiting with company I may be able to introduce some to the dogs and take time to deal with that aspect I felt it counter productive to the theme of the day even though I may be neglecting the education of My dogs if anyone shows up and is willing to negotiate with them when Im present I will be glad to introduce You to them .The warning was just that .for My own benifit .
I would also like to mention there is a nice park one block away from where I live it has pic-n-nic tables and bar-b-q pits and swingsets and plenty of grass tenis courts and soccer fields /baseball fields too running trac and so on so forth I live near a High school so its a nice walk just to spend an hour or so to get some exorcize :D

From any grown human and many other dogs I feel the danger to My dogs except the mailman My boy dog got loose one day and jumped all the way to the mailmans coller if He had bit him on the throat ?? Im afraid to think what might have happened as it was He just tor the mans shirt Happened so fast it surprised everyone The dog is like that sometimes trying to protect my wife He wont let anyone near Her when she's sleepint too even the other dogs .It's a good thing the mailman likes dogs He just shrugged it off .
Either way I dont want there to be any misunderstanding or anyone to get hurt .
The little buggers do bark loudly and during the day they have the run of the yard most days sometimes the children of the nieborhood tease the dogs One little boy got nipped on the butt for all His efforts .
Lucky for us He didn't tell his mother or father .they dont get out of the yard .,everytime its some kind of interaction with My wife they can jerk the leash out of Her hand .The boy dog is the one I worry about the most He seems to be the most agressive and aparently He can hold a grudge .

I'll probly be straightining out the garage I keep trying to do it but keep running into more projects Yesterday I had to swap radiators from My 86 to My 84 one is brass and the other is plastis and the mount totally different the bottom hoses are different too
It would have been a twenty minut job If I had wanted to spent the money for a new one If I could have found one LOL and was willing to spend a fortune :angryfire:
In a crazed frenzy I cut off the old mounts to both and welded the 86 mounts on the 84 an 8doller flex hose and done but what another mess LOL:D

I got the bike to idle good today and it starts better like first or second kick I worked on the turn signal needed a bulb and the headlight had two shorts I fixed one the second is going to be more difficult as it is in the switch and the switch plastic is broken . I might have to do a handyman special as I know that factory switch is expensive

i likee bikes. I don't need the tranny rich and if mike has a torch we should be able to make short work of the axles I have my impact loaded don't forget the metric impact sockets.

I won't be able to make it, but I accidentally left the blower motor in the back of the Exploder, so is it too much to ask someone to snag it for me?

James, Don, Mike and everyone else who helped over the past two weekends, I appreciate all of it. Mike, your torch made short work of today, including that bastard of a lug nut for Don's new BII wheels.

I got the engine out of the trailer and almost on the stand after getting home, need some shorter bolts for the mount holes on the sides of the block. Also pulled the clutch and flywheel off, next job is a thorough cleaning and degreasing before changing all the seals, wires and plugs.

Tomorrow, I'm resting, but I might be up for Saxon if I wake up in time.

I never actually mounted and engine to a stand ?? where do You mount it? maby the back of the block where the bell housing bolts up?

yes it mounts up where the bell housing bolts to it. you usually use longer bolts with spacers so it al lfits evenly

Yes, Shawn beat me to it. My stand has short spacers built onto the arms, I just need to get some shorter bolts or a lot of washers to mount the engine correctly so I can tear it apart. The 4.0 also has two threaded holes, one on each side of the block outside the flywheel, where I can also mount the arms.
