After all the troubles I have had with Qwest and their billing (bundle savings my ass!) I was looking into other options. I wont deal with comcast either ( and my brother in law working there doesnt even get a good deal for himself) I looked over hughes net pricing and their cheapest plan is $59 bucks a month plus the $299.98 after mail in rebate for the equipment and standard installation. I think thats alot of freaking money for a connection ( even though its superfast ) considering the amount for Qwest and comcast is not much cheaper though. I dont know of any other sattelite connection deals out there. Anyone else using this or something else? I am really missing my music and you tube videos and cant check e mail as fast and send out photos of my junk and whatever else I do all night long after work. I really should get some work done on my truck instead lol

suggestions?

I don't really like giving my money to Comcast. Too bad you don't wanna deal with 'em, their internet rocks.

Here's a thread you can see what some folks here have for download speeds (http://www.rmftc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4164&highlight=internet)

cumcast doesnt care about their customers. they keept trying to charge me for a box I turned into the installer after my move, He even wrote it down on the new contract and cumcast wouldnt even discuss it with me. so they reported it to my Credit report 3 times. I Even wrote in my Credit agency to dispute it. doesnt work. My Brother in law works for them and he cant even get an employee rate for himself. Good reason to hate big corporate businesses. Qwest isnt so bad but their billing is horrible. they keep letting shit I never ordered added to my bills. Hughs net is really expensive. I think ill just keep searching for a better deal on high speed

I have had comcast ever since I moved out of my parents place many years ago, and haven't really had any issues (aside from lately we've been having some signal issues, but have found their customer service to be very responsive without a long wait, and they've always sent a tech out within a day to check out problems and correct the issue).
For a while I had comcast for internet/tv and qwest for phone, and had much more issues with qwest, especially whenever I moved.

Every satellite internet provider I've used has been slooooow - like, near dial-up speeds. The latest was on a cruise two weeks ago when I needed to check my e-mail for business reasons. It worked, but was painfully slow. Throw some weather in there (heavy rain, snow) and you'll have even slower speeds or all out disconnections.

As for the service we have - it's Comcast - and love 'em or hate 'em (I settle somewhere in between), I've never had more dependable internet service. It's rock-solid, as fast as you can get (for the price) and - if you play their game and are willing to spend a bit of time on the phone every 6 months or so - you can keep their special "introductory" rate for years (as I have done) by threatening to switch to Qwest, etc. :)

I had Comcast at my folks house and loved it. When I moved into the apartment, my room mate took over the internet seeing as he already had a Qwest account so we went with that... Never again will I deal with Qwest. My internet is SLOWWWW... I ran the speedtest.net test last night, something rediculous like 673 download speed and 435 upload... I absolutly hate running at near dialup speeds when I'm supposed to have high speed DSL.

my Qwest DSL was fast enough for me. when I ran the Test it was about 1500 download and 700 something upload. it worked great. I am not concerned with the connection itself I want a company that can give customers good service, and can be trustworthy, as well as know they treat their own employees as they would want to be treated themselves. I hate spending time on a phone having to argue about billing, services, and or whatever else I have had to deal with through cumcast and Qwest both. there needs to be more companies out there to stop this freaking monopoly. I am using direct TV for Television and so far everything has been great, so far... hughesnet is their sister company and I decided the cost for their service is WAYYYYYYYYY to much, Call me frugal if you will but I hate spending my hard earned money with corporations that do nothing but increase inflation without giving something back to both employees and long term customers. I will keep looking for something better

Chuck, try changing the phone line from the jack to the modem. I had the same problem with slow speeds and replaced the phone cord and it went back up to 1.5 with no problems.

As for internet, I hate Comcast, had terrible luck with them. Qwest has pissed me off several times but with where I live there isn't many choices. So I have stuck with Qwest.

We have mesanetworks (mesanetworks.net) with a little rectangle satellite thing on the SE corner of our house. No real complaints for 4 years now, no outages, and I VPN into my work, download music, use Vonage for our land lines, and all that stuff. I don't know if these numbers are decent but I think it's fast enough. $44/month.

thanks Maranda? or Ryan? I will look into them, I was also looking at another one blue something .net. its 49 a month for the base system, and hughes net is outrageous. whats messed up is our locations determine who can serve you. everywhere I have looked it gives me options for DSL or cable is Qwest or cumcast only. which sucks because I could have Netzero DSL for 14.99 a month but its not available in my area
the other thing about sattelite I am finding out is everyone wants a 2 year contract.
I saw Vonage has some great deals on cell phone rates with no contracts, they are next on my list to look into

Is vonage just a home phoe internet deal, or can you use it like a cell phone? I cant find that information on their website, it just says you have a modom and use your phones, lol

I don't remember signing any contract with Mesa, if we did it couldn't have been for more than a year. If you decide to go with it, you can use our name and I think we get a referral bonus (Penner).

As far as I know Vonage is home phone only, but you can set it up online at any time to ring forward to your cell phone or any other phone. I have it do that if for any reason my internet is down. When I had a bad modem that feature worked really well so I wouldn't miss any work calls. You can listen to your voice mails online, too. I have a work number and home number that ring to the same phone. The work line rings 2 times before voicemail, the home line rings 4 times. Pretty snazzy. Faxing with Vonage is a no-go for me, though... doesn't work.

Have fun sorting it all out. :) Maranda (who uses Ryan's logon a lot)

I have the comcast/Vonage combo. I like it a lot, haven't had any problems with it for the few years I've had it.
I'm another one of those people that will use tin cans and a string before I go back to Qwest. Same problem as stated before, bad billing and customer service.
As far as other options, I know that Tom Martino (The Troubleshooter) has some kind of phone service and maybe internet they provide. I think the names Liberty Bell, but I don't know of anyone who uses it. It might be worth checking out.

Maranda I will use your name as soon as I register, thanks very muck, there is a Deal I think youll get a 50 dollar credit or check for my referral. Thats how a company should treat their customers unlike cumcast or Qwest who dont care about the paying customer at all. I just looked in the mail today for the most pathetic deal even for new customers from cumcast. I will lose out on 400 bucks from Qwest too but it will well be worth it not to lose more than that over the next year.

Oh and Tom Martino is a joke, he doesnt care what you do as long as you pay him money to be on his list of referrals. If he cared why do you have to pay? We looked into it for our business, we dont need to give him a ton of money because we do good work without needing to pay someone to do that, Our customers give us refferrals for free

well its up and running Penner should get a referral fee in a month or so test shows ok, I might need to clean out some files. my ol puter needs some upgrades as well and I do notice faster speeds after running my maintenance on it Scan disc, IE cache clearing, stuff like that. I dont know jack squat about these things but I learn a tiny bit every day
Oh I gotta fix my CR drive too

Looks like I may be calling Mesa Networks, I'll be sure to use you as a reference Ryan :). Comcast internet has been going down on a regular basis the last few weeks, and they can't seem to figure out why. Since I rely on internet for after-hours work and also for just about everything I do, outages aren't acceptible, even if I have to sacrifice speed a bit.

Matt I am very happy so far with Mesa, the billing is simple, they are more of a person to person company as far as communications between me and them, which I like, gives you that " small town customer" sort of feeling. Also I went to vonage for my home phone, kept my old number and havent had any connection troubles, this old house has about twenty phone line hookups and only 2 work, lol so internet phone ( vonage) has been great and so many neat features for the price ( cheap)

Oh, and it sems faster and more reliable than my Quest DSL was even if it was not as fast of a download speed which I did get the slowest speed I think there is three more above this, about ten bucks a month more per rise in connection
