Im such a science nerd...
The full eclipse is going on, its so awesome how things work out... Such a small chance that the sun, Earth and moon all align so perfect...
Cool red color too... i guess thats because the only light reflecting off the moon is that from the sun rises and sun sets around the earth since thats the only light hitting... neato!
Check it out, another few minutes for the main show, few hours til complete!

Remember a couple of years ago when there was that astroid shower (I forget what the technical name is) that went late into the night but was visibal any where in town. That was an amazing sight. I watched it from the back of my truck on lookout mountain.

I'm a nerd too, I usually prefer discovery channel shows over other shows LOL.

I watched the eclipse last night. I've not been that excited for at least three months. The meteor shower a couple of years ago was awesome. If it was not for the Discovery Channels lineup including Wings, Science, Times, etc. I would be bored.

That meteor shower happens every year... Those meteors are in the same part of space and every year at the same time/day, we fly through that in our orbit... I didnt live here when y'all went out to watch but I would love to do it next time... w hen was that again? I know it was cold...

It happens every year but for some reason, this particular year it was a LOT more prominent, in fact they said it was one of the biggest meteor showers in recorded history. I remember that anywhere you looked in the sky at any given time you would see a shooting star. Sometimes 3 or 4 at a time. It was like "ooh theres one!" "ooh theres one!" "ooh theres a BIG one!" it was unbelievable awesome. Usually its mid-late november if I remember right.

The one I was referring too that Matt knew the name for "Leonid meteor shower" which only happens once every 50 or 60 years and is one meteor shower that has a vast amount of meteors over a wide period of time.

I just noticed this post...but...yeah, this is one of the reasons i love the mtns..i can see from my back patio what most people in denver cant see when there are showers. The stars are so bright up here, and everywhere...just peacful. I can either climb a little up the mtn, or drive a little to the peak of guanella, up by greys and torys...basically anywhere...I know some killer places. Didnt kow so many people with trucks liked to do the same, mostly see people in Honda elements and toyota hybrids when i go, if i see anyone at all.. .Sounds like a good club event for this winter?????

That's one event that I'm built for. Sometimes (maybe 10 times a year) I throw on a sweatshirt.

Yeah, being tall deffinently makes the cold worse...but makes the heater all that much better when ya get back in front of it....Weel have to do checking, see when one is happening...and try to nail something down for the group, our friends, etc.....could be a fun time.

It's amazing that even right in the city you can get away enough from the lights to really enjoy these events. During last week's lunar eclipse, I was on a night ride at Cherry Creek State Park with a small group of cyclists. It's amazing how dark it was inside the park when you consider you're surrounded by throngs of civilization on all sides. The reservoir was so calm and the moonlight glinting off its glassy surface was incredibly cool. Our group almost wrecked a few times looking up at the moon, but otherwise it was such a great, peaceful way to see the eclipse. :D
