My name is Chris Swatloski I am a relatively new resident to Colorado. 3 years in Pueblo and 2 in Littleton. Previous to that, my time was in Arizona with 20 years in Flagstaff. I've a great lady and one boy, he is 10. I am a Financial Advisor and am glad to answer questions for you or make sure your getting a good deal.

I have owned a Bronc now for 20 years. I had built-up an 84 with 6" of spring lift and enjoyed go-fast wheeling in sand washes, cinders, and forest service roads in AZ. The go fast got me, I totalled it in a rollover at about 35 mph. A basic roll bar by Smittybuilt saved my skull!
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/479458/fullsize/bessy-jump.jpg

It wasn't until I moved here that I started to do the more technical and rocky trails. I've slowed down and built up so hopefully it survives a flop or roll. I am just nearing having this rig completed and want to get out to some of the more difficult trails. That does not preclude some easy, scenic, camping, fishin' fun trails! My lady aptly named it, "The Carcass".

The Carcass, a cut up Exo/ino narrowed in the front and bobbed in the back, custom tube doors, and snap out windows.

I took the time to redue one of the ugliest sections of this thing, the "C" pillar. Admittedly I had slapped it together. I was running out of time to get it squared-off before our last move, over two years ago. I beleive it was strong, but I had a splice in the center and a couple of sleeves to cover kinks on the sides. The placement of the tubes and spare tire was limiting rear view. I went from this:

http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/463963/fullsize/dscn1439.jpg
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/600828/fullsize/dscn2787.jpg
To This:
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/633693/fullsize/dscn3096.jpg
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/633694/fullsize/dscn3093.jpg
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/633695/fullsize/dscn3094.jpg

I can now place the spare inside or outside on top of the gas tank as well as get other stuff in and out easier. I moved the roofline/angle forward on the C pillar. This mod of the cage lowered the CG some as there is less pipe up high and now the spare can be placed down low. It greatly improved visability out the back. I can see well down and too the side even with the spare mounted up on the tank. I still have plenty of cargo space but the bench seat is "outta there". I am going to get a single low back suspsension bucket for when I need room for three.
I'll have to redue the back windows and cut the side ones down to fit. Then get back to adding a few triangles and may gussets to strengthen it.

Here be the latest addition to the Carcass, 42X15 Rockers!

I thought I'd do an update. The Pitbulls have been sold. Damn things road terrible and I drive this thing daily a short distance. They flat spot badly. I picked-up a used set and a new set of 40" MTR's. I grooved and siped the used set for winter driving.

I cut the front of the engine crossmember off and will cut a peice to allow the track bar to clear and get a little bit more up travel. I am going to cut a piece of 1/4" plate to bolt to and reinforc the front of it from the frame up. It's got to be removable so I can pull the engine if needed. The first pic shows the peice of tube I put in to clear the track bar. The second two show the front cut.

I hope to get back to this this weekend. I got busy with some new/used beadlocks adn 40" MT/R's. I have decided to go with 3/16" plate vs the plastic. It will hold-up better and is a bit less expensive. I did get it weathered-in, sheet metal welded on and caulked since I daily drive the thing. A couple more pics of the process:
Passenger side cut out:
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/702074/fullsize/dscn3602.jpg
This cut out was about 13 pounds of sheet metal and 25lbs of slider. I beleive it will be a net weight loss but much will be added back tying the exo down to the frame and plating it:

I am very close to painting, may get some fine Custom Krylon Semi Flat black applied tonight, and with pics to follow! Me thinks it's coming out well and with the addition of a combo oil pan/tranny skid it will be hard to rock the Carcass to death.

I bought this True Hi9/Spidertrax Hosing through Blue Torch Fabworks. I did a trial fit and got some paint on it. To build something like this with my handtools would have been a day long project. This thing is 1/4" plate with quality cuts, bends and cut holes. Must be nice to have a laser cutter, water jet or whatever they cut the pieces with!

Damn cold windy and rainy weekend! I didn't get as much done this week-end as I wanted to, but I can put-in a couple of hours per evening now that the days are longer during the week. I got the top "A" pillar doubled, but need to tie the two tubes together with some plate. I doubled it since I drive daily, too trails and want to keep it legal. An officer could argue that an inverted "V" at the "A" pillar is an obstruction to the drivers view. I placed an "X to beef/triangulate the top. Next, I can start placing gussets. I hope to be done with the cage this week!
I got to install a CB, an interior light and bed-line the tub and this carcass of a rig should be done for a while.
I am thinking of welding on a visor. What do you think of that idea?

I ordered some RockStomper Steering Arms. They are 3/4" thick, bolt over the stock caps, and I also order ARP studs kits for them. The arms are $100 each and will have two 5/8" pilot holes drilled in them so I can ream them to run the Chevy TRE's top or bottom depending on the clearance issue between the tie rod/frame and steering geometry with the trac bar. Rockstomper can ream them for TRE's, send them out blank, or drill the size hole you need for heims. I am having them drilled with two holes in each so I can run the drag link directly to the steering arm if I want to. I chose Rockstomper for quality, simplicity, and price. Got my hydraulic assist through them too at a good cost.

I cut a waterproof bag along the seams added grommets to be able to bungee it on and wrapped it around the spool to keep the moisture and gunk out. I will add some protection in the form of tube since it still sticks out past the front stinger a bit. Now I will be able to fab a grill our of some preforated aluminum I picked-up and I'll hide/mount the winch control box to the left of the winch behind the grill.

I am jibbin' for my parts as I am close to finishing my rig off after a long slow build. I have ordered-up a high strength engagement collar for the rear ARB in my 9", Longfield D60 35 spline Drive Flanges, and Rockstompers winch rope. A tax return and recent raise burnt a hole right through my pocket!

The ARB locking rings in Ford 9" lockers have been broching/wearing the teeth down and slipping wth repeated hard engagements/crash engagements in competitions. I probably screwed the one up in mine with low pressure due to gear oil in the air line.:doh0715: It is a test part I picked-up early on for $100, now they are $200 but they will replace your locker if they are so strong that something else let's go in your ARB.

Replacement:
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/726358/fullsize/arb-engagement-collar-for-ford-9.jpg

Longfield flanges have a spring to keep the axles in place and the puck in the right place. The advantage over lockouts is greater strength material and thicker puck/longer splines for more engagement with the axle and hub.
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/726356/fullsize/poly-perf.-dana60_flangekit.jpg

RockStompers Rope. I ordered 75' of 3/8th rope. That should allow me to spool it up to either side when winching since the spool holds 100'. It comes with an 8" sleeve that is abrasion resistant. I got a 25" extension for long pulls.

I would rather blow up a hub than an axle.

This is a fine line. Do you keep the week link in and it blows at the least likely moment, but is easy to repair. Or do you go stronger and it breaks further in and less repairable. Or it does not break at all.

Hopefully it is not break at all with alloy axles and Longfield joints. I have also gone with 40's rather than 42's or 44's.

I have broken a ring and pinion and a couple u-joints (which take out the custom axles) and a new set of Warn hubs.

Not a lot of carnage for a truck sporting 44's and 40's with all that power and all those years.

So hope fully you will not go Ka Bloomy any time soon.

A work in progress. This upgrade should fit D44 solid axles with 17" rims.
summary thus far:

1990 F250 Twin Piston Calipers & mounts
2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Rotor turned down to 12.6" and hole opened-up to fit over your hub.
Wheel spacer

Spacing of the rotor is very important. I mounted this stuff up on 8 lug hubs turned down, plugged and redrilled for 5 on 5 1/2. I don't know about how thick stock hubs are and thus where that would place the rotor. I am using a 5/16" wheel spacer between the rotor and hub. The height difference in the Stock f250 rotor and dodge rotor is about 1/2" I may fine tune by adding an additional wheel spacer, but more space would require longer lugs. The difference in rotor thickness between the F250 and Dodge Rotor is 1/8" so I may add a 1/8" spacer behind a pad to fine tune. The first option would move the rotor in more and the second would move the caliper some. The calipers do ride a bit to the outside of the mount, maybe about 1/4".

The brakes work great!

I don't know if stock break lines will bolt-up.

That's about all I do know for now but will get some pics up in a few days.

Hmmmm, never updated this on da brakes. They work great! I got much better stopping power than the smaller pads and single piston chevy 3/4 ton brakes I had been running.

I believe this would work for your Dana44 too.

Here's a pic of the set-up F250 twin calipers, caliper mounts and Dodge rotor inside a 17" rim.

My tires were rubbing and I wanted some nice flat fenders to be able to utilize the interior space better. I got a couple of rocket ammo boxes that sit nicely on the fenders for storage.

Paint and caulking are holding this thing together.

Next-up I complete some paint on the outside, install OBA, install heat shields on the exhaust, and paint/carpet/bed-line the interior.

I'm down to making it more comfortable and look a bit better, maybe even a stereo install.
