Name: Ted Farmer
City: Littleton

Bio: I am a 6th generation Colorado native. I have been 4-wheeling since I was 16, now 43. I lived in The Los Angeles area for 15 years before moving back to Colorado.

I went 4-wheeling every weekend Friday-Sunday for 8 years straight. I have 8 years of Off-Road search and rescue under my belt. 6 years for the National Forest Service in LA County and 2 for Adams County Search and Rescue. I am very proud of my 4-wheeling and am proud to see so many with the same passion for wheeling that I have.

The Beast: A 1977 Ford F250 4X4 High Boy Ranger.

Front: Dana 60 high pinion, open diff, Custom 35 spline axles inners and outers with custom 35 spline Spicer hubs. Front brakes have been “modified” to accept a 15” wheel.

Rear: Dana 70, Detroit Locker with stock axles, Custom made rear shackles.

Interior: Removable Grant Steering wheel, Front bench seat out of the rear of a 1998 Ford F350 crew cab, factory belts, full 4 point internal roll cage, Cobra 40ch CB, Mag light holder, Rev limiter, Kill switches, Alpine 3 disc removable CD player with Alpine 250 watt amp, 2 6x9 Pioneer speakers, 2 Pioneer 4” round speakers.

External mods and add ons to the exterior: Custom front bumper, Warn 12,000lb winch, custom cut front fenders, Duel front Pro Comp shocks with custom mounts, Duel Sky Jacker Front steering stabilizers, Custom Paint (peeling, cracking and all), Rear in bed 45 gal fuel tank with storage, in bed tie downs, duel electric fuel pumps, single rear Pro Comp shocks, rear receiver hitch with pentle hook, Steering box out of a F450. Dual Off-Road lights with Ford covers.

Motor: 510ci BB Ford with SCJ heads. 460 stroker motor, Holly 750cfm dbl pumper, Don Zig magneto, Eldebrock SCJ Aluminum intake ported to heads, cast iron Super Cobra Jet heads, 45 degree valve retainers, roller rockers, duel springed valve springs, ported heads, stainless steele valves, Hank The Crank custom steel stroker crank, Carrillo rods with Titanium rod bolts, Aries custom forged 9.5 to1 aluminum racing pistons, 16qt capacity oil pan, high volume oil pump, Custom main bearing cap retainers, 4 row desert cooler radiator, power steering cooler. Holds 16 quarts oil and 6 gallons of coolant.

Transmission: custom built C-6 with SCJ racing 5 clutch forward clutch pack, SCJ racing 4 clutch reverse clutch pack. 1st and 2nd gears out of an E4OD, NO shift kit, Factory trans cooler.

Tires: I have 2 sets, 38X15.5-15 Radial Ground Hawgs on 15X10 White spoke 8 lug wheels, 40X17.5-16.5 bias Ground Hawgs on 9.75X16.5 8 lug chrome mods painted to match truck.

Planed Mods: 12”x15” wheels with internal bead lock. 44x18.5-15 Ground Hawgs. Eaton E-locker for the front diff. Body armor. And eventually bob the rear of the truck.

The truck is basically a stock F350 that has been modified to handle the bigger tires and bigger horsepower the power plant puts out. It does not go everywhere and do every thing, but it comes close. I am proud to have a vehicle that I drive daily and can do hard-core wheeling as well as compete against the big boys in specific competitions. I do truck pulls, mud bogs, sand drags and race at Bandemere. I do not always win but I usually place well.

Thats one of my Favorites. I grew up riding and learning to drive sitting on my dads lap when his was new, his IS a 77 F250 4x4 Ranger XLT. the interior is immaculate and original, the paint is faded but is going through a restoration as he stocks up on the rubber and other worn materials. I believe he is giving it to the youngest brother, he bought it new, Damn tool box in the bed was one of my favotrites too, of course all of them got busted into once or twice

anyways nice Pickup Huter, or Hunter :D

Here is a pic I just scanned in. This was before I owned the truck.

It had 44's on 12" wide wheels, lockers front and rear with a 4 speed.

I did not stop talking about it all weekend. I told five or six different people about the truck and it's awesome power.

Did you get the paint done here in Colorado?

Hunter
07-21-2008, 11:59 AM
Here in Colorado. They did a terrible job. Paint is cracking and peeling.

Who did it? I am getting my Bronco painted next month and need to know who to avoid.

Doing a repaint or full color change?
If color change, unless you want a cheapy job, if they say they'll have it done in a day or less, even a week or less, you'll likely get a crummy job. Gotta pay for quality. Last I checked, Maaco's quotes for full color change include 2 hour of prep. TWO HOURS! Thats barely enough time to mask anything off, much less do any sanding, priming, prepping before spraying.

Oh I know whats involved. I'm haveing the intire thing sand blasted to the mettel any rust we find will be delt with and then primered and then painted with at least 6 layers of cleir so I can buff out scratches from tree's. The coler is going to be Black Pearl. I will also have a graphic of a pirete ship ( small about 8" tall and 8" long) with the name black pearl under it. It is a Black and Tan E.B. now so not a whole lot different then oem. It should take approx. 3 weeks and has a gerranteed for 5 yrs.

who is doing it?

I have a freind named David Kleve. He paints all the Dragsters for Vee Gains. (prostock) and has a custum paint and body shop here in Denver. He only does one car at a time and it will be perfict or he does not let it go out. I have been waiting for him to have time for me for over a year.

That's cool. Hope it turns out awesome :). It's good when someone actually takes pride in their work and doesn't let it go unless its right.

My old truck was in the body shop for about two and a half months. They were fixing hail damage, fixing some other body damage from various accidents as well as doing a full repaint with flames. One of the most expensive checks I ever wrote in my life, but the end result was worth it :).

It wasn't the only vehicle they were working on, but I think it was one of three, and much of that time was spent waiting for parts. It actually spent about 24 hours in the paint booth, and that was painting everything, clearing, polishing, clearing, flames, and then an hour or so for some of the hand-striping.

Hunter, Love that Beast , but i will have tap your knowlege base when it comes to ford performance . the bronco's 302 is just gonna be to weak with the axles and tires it will be running soon

Hunter
07-28-2008, 02:19 PM
The 302 will have to go.

The best bet is to get a 510ci Ford motor sport motor. Has aluminum SCJ heads and intake. Almost the same motor I have built. The big difference is the crank. Theirs is cast and mine steel.

Is it time to bob that rig and dove-tail it or do a flatbed? Maybe narrow the front too and hit some of the many kick ass rock trails in Colorado?

I know hard to do for a mud stud but.........................................

Hunter
04-30-2009, 02:42 PM
Defiantly would like to bob the back end and Hank's Hot Rods quoted me a good price for sliders. Also would like to down size on the front bumper to big and bulky.

Right now I just got to get that motor back apart and fixed.

I vote to keep the front bumper. I watched you split one of those concrete barriers/culvert pipe out at CORE in half with that damn thing. STOUT

I have my truck at a buddies shop right now, he is going to install new 3/8" push rods and get rid of those 5/16" ones I keep bending. Normally I would do this my self, but since I am impaired due to my Left shoulder I am letting him do this. I want the truck done by winter time.
Also I found A/C brackets and compressor, we are going to try to make the factory A/C work. If not I will use the compressor as a on board air system. I am also going to add an extra heater in the cab, for some reason the factory one does not put out enough heat when it is real cold.

Here is a list of new mods being done.
3/8" push rods.
Air conditioning or air compressor.
Extra in cab heater.
Front drive shaft retubed.(bent it on the rock pile at CORE).

Then next spring count me in on some fo those runs I missed this year.
