I stopped by Off-Road Innovations today, great place, gotta say they'll probably be getting my business from here on out. They mentioned that some Saturdays they offer intro to welding courses where they basically take people that have never welded in their life, explain some of the different welders, and let them test some welding out for a few hours. Would there be any interest in this?
i didn't ask if there was any cost for this, but its something I'd definately like to do.

I was thinking of picking up a welding class somewhere once I graduate. This would be great to see if I would like it without costing a lot of time or money.

My friend has a welder and I was hoping to start doing some fabrication over the winter. My friend's welding skills are severly lacking so I would definately be intested in a class. Oh, and Hi all. Nice to meet you. :D

Matt, I'm definately in. I've been eyeing up an El Cheapo harbor Freight MIG welder to screw around with... guess a class on not buring down the garage would be helpful :)

I talked to the folks about this class, they said they'll try to set one up where we can have some members attend, and it is free, FYI.

The real reason I would like to have this class is b/c I have some floor boards that the guy who had the bronco before me replaced the rusted old ones with...well he just riveted the new ones over the old. Not very safe, it holds for now but one day I would like to take care of it with welds.

There is talk about an ORI welding class on Co4x4. Are we every going to get a club class together or should I sign up for this other one?

mattadams
02-07-2005, 03:51 PM
we are going to do it. I'm already in talks with them on it, just trying to figure out scheduling and time and so forth. I will hopefully know something within a day or two.

mattadams
02-07-2005, 04:09 PM
OK, we are still looking into a weekend that will work for ORI... but I wanted to let you know what they told me. They said we can do a straight welding course, where we just learn the basics of welding steel together, etc. It's a freebie. Or for $20 each we can do a fabrication/welding class, which also includes bending some tubes (they give us each a tube to play with which is why it costs a little extra), the welding behind it, etc.
What would more people be interested in?

drklawz
02-07-2005, 04:28 PM
Sounds great! I could shell out $20 or so to get the most out of the class. Just schedule the feakin' thing!

mattadams
02-07-2005, 04:53 PM
yeah unfortunately its not quite that easy. They are a fairly small shop and sometimes they schedule installs on saturday, and sometimes they don't do shop stuff on Saturday, and then they are trying to plan a session or two for the colorado4x4 group as well, so we're just working on finding a good solution for days that will work for everyone.
I told them we'd have about 6-10 people, so hopefully all those that have said they are coming will show up, once we actually get it all scheduled! :).

UrbanCowboy
02-07-2005, 05:23 PM
I could go either way. I would happily pay $20 to do more. However, I will never be able to afford a bender so it would be more fun than anything. Now welding..... I can afford a welder.

I'll pay the $20 extra, I wanna be able to make a roll cage one day!!!!

rino351
02-07-2005, 11:51 PM
I could probably cough up an extra $20

clavos
02-11-2005, 10:38 PM
If by some miracle this occurs on a date that I can make it, I'll gladly fork over $20.

I want to learn to weld, count me in on either weekend day. I would gladly come down to learn.

Where is ORI?

Looks like they're making progress with the co4x4.com class....

* March 5th and 12th
or
* Marth 26th and April 2nd

02-21-2005, 01:19 PM
I'd be interested too. And $20 is no big deal. Any Sat would work, I just need to know at least week or two before hand so I can get time off.

mattadams
02-21-2005, 02:40 PM
I assume whatever dates they choose for colorado4x4, we'll be one of the opposites... since we're about 3% of the size of colorado 4x4, thats their top priority... so unfortunately just have to wait til they have a good Saturday to get us all in on.

UrbanCowboy
03-07-2005, 12:19 PM
Well I've passed up Both Co4x4.org welding classes. Hope that doesn't bite me in the butt.

mattadams
03-07-2005, 01:07 PM
Well all I can do is try to get them to schedule it for us. I keep bugging them about it, and they keep saying they are trying to arrange for a free Saturday for us. That's all I can do.

mattadams
03-11-2005, 08:24 AM
Here is what I've heard from ORI. I guess if you really want to get this done in a hurry, try to get in with one of the Colorado4x4 classes... I figured we were a higher priority for them :(. Not much I can do I guess.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Matt,
We're running a couple of Colorado4x4.org classes through March and early April and have our grand opening planned for mid April. So looks like early May would be the earliest (we've promised Doug and Jack a couple of weekends off the end of April).
For this round of classes we determined that $25 per participant was
appropriate to cover materials and instructors time. For the 4x4.org groups we're including some fabrication as well. Let's touch base again in April and see what we can get figured out.
Sorry bud, I figured they meant we'd be doing it within a few weeks, not a few months, when I talked to them last.
Anyways, I'm going to see if I can "squeeze" you into one of the other classes, but no promises or anything.
