So you all are telling me that I should hang on to my stock rims, as my 35's can not be tested at the emissions places. What about rapid screen? Anyone have any imput on this?

Usually rapidscreen only works if you pass with FLYING colors, with no question at all that the emissions you put out, yada yada. It might work, give it a shot! Only catch is you have to do it before your emissions is due, or its too late.

The way I understand it is you have to pass those road side things twice within a month of renewal. Some of the limos have passed it.

My wife's car passed this way this year. I would not count on it though. Keep a set of smaller tires on hand if you already have them for testing purposes. Smaller tires will up your CO2 count, but if your truck is running right, it shouldn't effect whether it passes or not. I have used 31's in place of my 35's twice now(thanks Larry!) and passed easily.

I just bought the truck a little less than a year ago, so I just did the emissions thing(before I did the bigger tires). But, I passed one of those rapid testers today and was wondering if it would work. I guess I will have to wait till next year to if it works or not. If anybody else has any luck with this, let us know.

I LOVE rapid screen! They passed my Explorer when it was still taken apart in my driveway! It hadn't run for at least a year when I got the renewal for the plates. Proudly displayed in the corner was an explanation of how I didn't need to emissions test it cause it passed roadside inspection.
Gotta love government beaurocracy!
Somewhere theres a hybrid owner that's pissed cause they're saying his gas guzzler SUV didn't pass emissions. :)

I sent out an email earlier today asking the Rapid Screen people about my situation and here is what they said.
As long as the camera can photograph your license plate, it shouldn’t be a problem to get a reading with RapidScreen. However, it does not automatically mean you will qualify; your vehicle must be very clean to qualify for RapidScreen’s strict standards and you must record two clean passes by RS in the 12 months and at least 60 days prior to registration renewal month. Good luck.

Both my 77 F250 and my 2001 Expedition have past on rapid screen.:)
The problem with it is being sure you drive by it twice in the aloted time.
This last year I took my F250 to the emissions station with the 38's and had no problem, they just did not use the dyno.

I say go for it! At this point you have nothing to lose.
I'm kinda leary of them myself. The one that sets up in Golden is too close to the house. My car's engine is still cold when I blow past.
Then there's the bit I heard on the news: Failure notices with fixit tickets??? I've thought about putting stacks on my '74. Now I have one more reason. I just don't trust any system that has the power and authority to screw with you like that.

I wondered about putting the car in neutral, shutting it down and coasting through the test site. There should still be some risidual emissions coming out of the tail pipe, but it should be drastically reduced compared to normal. Would that give the impression of a super-clean engine?
