it's fun. flying in a cessna is a lot different from flying in large jet. but it's stil fun as hell :D .

it was a little bit windy friday (ok a lot windy for a 172L) so we cut the flight short. but i did get some questions about my written test answered which is good. so next week if the weather cooperates i'll be doing some more touch and go's. then i want to go out to the practice area and do a review of all maneuvers with my instructor Dan before i fly with Robert. i also have to get my class 3 medical done before i can solo.

thats gotta be a blats. my step dads cousin passed away last year was the owner of watkins motorcross track, his friend helped him build that place from the ground up. I was out on their ranch a few weeks ago watching the ultra lights take off, I am wanting to try it out now lol

Those old 172s are just too similar to VW Bugs, about the same size, year, flat 4 engine, but its way cool to get up there and fly! Congrats!

starting to get excited now. been reading over everything i've learned in the past 2 months. preflight procedures, getting clearance to go to the east practice area, all the different V speeds, departure procedures, slow flight, approach to landing stall, departure stall, steep turns, ground reference maneuvers, emergency procedures, radio comunications, traffic pattern, setting up for landing, everything. my brain hurts now

I'll have to check with my dad and see if he remembers what he learned to fly in. He just retired from flying back in October. Now he's instructing new recruits for different airlines.

It's cool to follow along in your progress.

the cessna 172L i fly has a cruzing speed of 110 mph. burns about 7.5 gph at 75% power. 38 gallons useable with no reserve. you do the math lol

Red

haha i'm not sure the what the rental on one of them is. i know that to rent a raven beta 44 helicopter at a different FBO is around $300 an hour.

well i'm finally gonna solo next wednesday. weather looks to be nearly perfect. today was a good day too but at about 300 feet AGL there was a nice wind upset just off the approach end of runway 17R that threw me around pretty good. got to do some extended downwind legs courtesy of an inbound c-130, no flap landings, and a simulated engine failure on downwind. wooo i got this sh*t down now :D

I was flying out of the Pete side for a while, Got 43 hours in a T41C 210 HP enigine. Power on stalls were a biatch, that thing would just climb.

Then I got vertigo and had to stop. Join AOPA, they have a discounted Student rate and they have some great lessons and materials.

Also get Microsoft flight sim 10. It was great. You can practice all you want, for any kind of situation. I think I have the disk around here somewhere...

I wound up having to do 2 cross country solos as they said my first wasnt long enough. I went to trinidad, then to pueblo, and back, then I went to Goodland kansas, some non towered ap NW of there in Colorado, and then back to COS.

Taking "road trips" in a small plane is stupid. Depending on weather, some dayd your ground speed is only 65 MPH.....

Now flying around local aitn bad, like up to aspen or something, or to that highest paved runway in america...Leadville...

I have had this sudden urge to want to try an ultra light. I went out to a friends Ranch out east of watkins where they fly them and watched two take off, it looks like a bunch of fun, the owner of the place has one in his garage, its the smallest one there is that requires a license. I guess he means FCC?, the other ones dont, two seaters. maybe one day I will get a chance to learn and try one out.

How much did it cost 4 you to start with the flying and the ground school?
That airfield is a good 1 to learn at its far enough east they moved it from the south side of I70 to the north side like I think 3 years back.

Red
03-23-2008, 03:45 PM
with this place it's all 1 on 1 stuff. I do ground as needed throughout the training with my instructor. ground and flying arent 2 seperate deals, it's all one thing. i think you are talking about a different airport as well, i'm at KCOS, colorado springs municipal airport. so far the total cost is hovering around $6000
