so today i sold my explorer to some guy downtown. he paid 3400 cash. i was pretty pleased. my mother was nice enough to give me 500 cash to put to another car. i looked at rigs and trucks and cars. i found a honda civiv turbo pushing 12 pounds and tuned and the bonus.....it runs on e85. this car will run mid 13's at the track all day long. so final price was 4900 the car has 117,000 and the motor has 80,000. its amazing and interior is stock and amazingly clean

Last few Hondas i saw running even low 14's at bandimere had 20+ pounds of boost AND nitrous..lol...see you there in April to see what it will do?>

$4900 is a good deal for something that is going to get the mileage that will (especially with E85) and has under 120,000 miles...

I was just thinkin you'd prolly have to sawzall those fenders to fit 35s.

I don't have photochop, I'm wondering how that Honda would look with 35s...and maybe spinners??? Hard to picture at the moment.

If I had that setup on my V8 Mustang it would run 10s!

I guess people are running E85 to run more boost.

I wonder if I could have run that in my old SVO and got more boost without detonation?

e85 keeps the engine cooler because of the alcahol in the fuel. all that had to be done were a aftermarket fuel pump, bigger injectore 850's and tuning.

E85 is 85% ETHANOL, 15% gas. No "Alcohol" in ethanol.

E85's octane is about 105, thats why people can run more boost, timing, and at higher altitude with less 'pinging'.

Ethanol does burn cooler...than gasoline....

FYI - Ethanol is grain-alcohol. (moonshine)

Fuel alcohol and fuel ethanol have a ton of differences.

If someone was to try and run fuel alcohol in an E85 engine it would destroy it.

Wikipedia:
Ethanol fuel is ethanol (ethyl alcohol), the same type of alcohol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol) found in alcoholic beverages (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholic_beverages). It can be used as a fuel, mainly as a biofuel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biofuel) alternative to gasoline, and is widely used in cars in Brazil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol_fuel_in_Brazil). Because it is easy to manufacture and process, and can be made from very common materials, such as sugar cane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_cane), it is steadily becoming a promising alternative to gasoline (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline) throughout much of the world.

US dept of energy website:
Ethanol (CH3CH2OH; also known as ethyl alcohol, grain alcohol, and EtOH) is a clear, colorless liquid. Its molecules contain a hydroxyl group (-OH) bonded to a carbon atom.

So you see, ethanol is alcohol.

I thought alcohol used in drag racing was methanol.

Methanol is:
Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol, carbinol, wood alcohol, wood naphtha or wood spirits, is a chemical compound (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_compound) with chemical formula (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_formula) C (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon)H (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen)3OH (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroxide). It is the simplest alcohol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol), and is a light, volatile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volatility_%28chemistry%29), colourless (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colour), flammable (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flammable), poisonous (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poison) liquid with a distinctive odor that is somewhat milder and sweeter than ethanol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol) (ethyl alcohol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethyl_alcohol)). At room temperature it is a polar liquid and is used as an antifreeze (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antifreeze_%28coolant%29), solvent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solvent), fuel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel), and as a denaturant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denatured_alcohol) for ethyl alcohol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethyl_alcohol). It is also used for producing biodiesel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodiesel) via transesterification (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transesterification) reaction.

Looks like one is from wood and one is from grain.

I think you're right. I was just clarifing this comment:
No "Alcohol" in ethanol
because ethanol is a type of alcohol fuel, although it is not the same as methanol.

Like i originally stated, Ethanol does not "have alcohol in it".

Hopefully from the info you posted, people can read it and see ethanol IS an alcohol, and stop thinking ethanol 'contains' alcohol.

Thanks.

Do you park the honda in a garage? Supposedly running higher % of ethanol than 15% (which is found in gas at the pump in all counties that require emission testing) can cause hard starting in cold weather...

I don't have any first hand with the E85. Does it suck water out of the air like any other alcohol based fluid?

That was one of those Nebraska things; people dumping bottles of heet in the tank instead of keeping it full, and trying to burn the water it absorbed.

Glass

Hypoid,it does absorb water...Not as bad as 100% ethanol, but it still abrorbs a good amount of water. The water it absorbs it what makes it "eat" old gas tanks, steel fuel lines, and carb parts, there are additives people 'should' add to thier tank every now and then, but i dont know what, or where to get it.
