I am not sure if this is good enough for a 10.5:1 454...hehehe, I think i might go with this cam for the dodge now that i sold the bloweer.... Heres what DD2K showed for me...
Gasoline only:
Torque = 414@2000 RPM, and peaks @ 547@4500 RPM. Peak HP = 578@6500 RPM.
With 150 shot N2O:
Peak Torque = 833 ft-lbs@1500 RPM. Peak HP = 736@6500 RPM.
With 200 shot N2O:
Peak Torque = 1011 ft-lbs@1500 RPM. Peak HP = 789@6500 RPM

thats smaller than the cam ill run in my 429. which is a 304/304 .615 lift, I believe its about 284 @ .050 but i need to check again, should be about 550-600 hp 11.5 pistons which prob end up around 9-1 up here lol.
oh wait your running N20 I keep forgetting that in the factor. I wonder how much juice would get my 429 to 1000 before exploding...

your 11.5 to my 10.5 is the difference between my pulling up to any gas station, and getting fuel, and running with no detonation, and you haveing to run high octane race fuel..lol

Upjet your carb & use a bigger power valve & run E85 (http://www.agriculture.state.ia.us/e85q&a.html). My buddy at work did that on both of his cars & couldn't be happier with the results. The 350 in his 69 Camaro runs 11.5:1 comp (it's his daily driver) & at PMI, he turns consistant 12.6's throught the mufflers & running drag radials. His 66 Nova is a supercharged 366 ci engine (also a daily driver) & turns consistant 11.50's throught the mufflers & drag radials as well. His best time was 11.51 & they told him he might wanna put a cage in it if he wants to run there again since he's 0.01 second away from that rule.
He did that to combat the pinging he experienced on both cars. It gets less mpg but he's been keeping track of fuel expenses & it's evened out as if he ran gasoline since E85 is under 2 bux a gallon. This allowed him to advance the timing even more than he did before but yet, experience no pinging in the process while gaining 0.2 sec on each car compared to running gasoline. Niether car runs NO2 though. You might need more than 105 octane.
One good thing (this is the gearhead in me), the exhaust smells like you're at the track watching alcohol cars run.
Oh, after lots of trial & error, he went up 4 steps in jet size & 3 in the power valves, he found that to be optimum for his setup. Also, he has performance metering blocks (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_752040_-1_11153) for further fine tuning.
I'm just mentioning this to you as an alternative to using $5.00 - $6.00 a gallon race fuel since it really worked.

I hope your buddy did make sure his fuel system is compatable as well, its not just changine carbs, the entire fuel system has to be E85 compatable, if he has steel lines they will corrode as well as the tank itself, I believe the lines can be a non ferrous material (aluminum) or plastic as well as the fuel cell
Warrlord
10-23-2007, 07:11 AM
Oh yeah, he did it up right. He's no dummy..............two very streetable, daily drivers that can turn 12's & 11's............he knows what he's doing. There's quite a few built big blocks at the track that can't even get in the 12's.
shawns 64 F100
10-24-2007, 12:47 AM
yup alot of big block cars that cant actually, lol ,I just hope he dont ruin the fuel system by not changing the steel lines out and the tank. if hes in the 11s im sure he has a fuel Cell. and prob alum lines. I know one of the div 5 sportsman racers whi is 06 season champion runs Ethanol and is loving it very much. I cant complain in my 06 work truck either @ 1.99 a gallon right now
one of my buddys up there was running it and was having problems so hes in methanol instead
Glass
10-24-2007, 01:51 PM
Shawn, after i get the Dodge figured out, if your mustang isnt ready, ill let you take it down the track once on a test and tune day or night.
Methanol or E85 would be fun...i might become a 50/50 pump gas/meth baby if needed.

10-24-2007, 10:40 PM
cool john, thanks, I would like to do that. I dont know how well them fuels would work mixed. If you do decide to alternative fuels, ask dustin Travis about his problems with E85, he is the only one i know so far that had any troubles, so he switched to methanol and it fixed his problem, im thinking it was like a top end lubrication probem, but not for certain. He dont run a T stop or anything so thats prob why his does and others dont

Not by much (your cam specs more duration but not more lift)
His cam:
288/298 duration (249/259 @ .050), .615"/.620"
Your cam:
304/304 duration (284/284 @ .050), .615"/.615"
His 25 more cubes will help tame down that cam.
Just bored here at work and pointing out the obvious.
BTW - Nice numbers!

IM going to try a smaller tamer cam in the stock 454 i have for now...
this will actually be the biggest cam i have ever personally ran, even though it is hydraulic, i didnt feel like messing around with a solid cam in this engine.
292 int./292 exh Duration (244 int./244 exh.@50) 0.550 int./0.550 exh. lift
110 lobe separation.
Should work like a charm even though i dont have the compression these cams like to work with, im sure it will work just fine for me.

Just remember your engine has lower compression than the factory rated it, being at a higher altitude and all.

T-stop it to run 13.99 in Top Street, watch all sandbaggers break out against me...hahaha, Id be the only one dumb enough to dial my car in at a 14.00, only to run the 10.5-13.99 class.
When i had the other junkyard engine (one of em i blew up this year...) It was a 100,000 mile 454 probobally around 7.8-8.0:1 CR with the 4.56's and a 3500 stall and with the 'normal' solidlift cam we usually run it was pulling 12.96-13.12.......Turned to 6,000 every time.
Even the pass it came apart it ran within .0003 ET of the pass before it..lol..
At higher elevation (altitude is distance off the ground, elevation is distance above sea level) The compression ratio of an engine does not change. What changes is the compression pressure in the cylinder. The compression pressure decreases with gains in elevation . The compression pressure decreases due to the loss in 'air density' with gain in elevation.
A 12:1 engine at sea level is still a 12:1 engine at 10,000ft. But, at 10,000 feet, there is less density in the air, the less dense air results in less cylinder pressure, which inturn results in lower performance.
Holy crap, i cant believe i just typed all of that.

Distributor is stabbed in, spark plug wires ready to cut to length, shifter cable ready to adjust, headers are on, sparkplugs in, good stuff.
if i get the spark plug wires cut to length and made up, build the transmission crossmember, and do some wiring the car will be ready to fire (by just filling the carb bowls up with fuel) No fuel system, driveshaft, or radiator yet.

Did not get the brake lights or tunr signals figured out....the brake light i remember now was a hydraulic switch located on the side of the master cyl....so tomorrow ill figure out which wire the brake lights are easy enough. For the turn signals i am going to go look at the 'parts' car i have at the end of town to see how they are wired in there. I did figure out my front parking lamp connections and front and rear turn signal connections, but i have not figured out how to wire the turn signal wires into the loom under the dash. Also i have not found the style parking lamps i want to have in the front yet.
I also found out the hard way that i need to put damn 12v bulbs in everywhere there is a 6v bulb in the car. The interior lighting and dash lighting seem to have a resistor already built in, but the exterior lighting, and the radio need the 12v system regulated down to 6v to work properly, or they need to be upgraded to 12v bulbs.
I also need to solder ground wires to my brake light, reverselight, and taillight housings. The housings actually are what ground it out, so im just going to solder wires to the housings, and ground the housings so that i know they will always have a good ground.
After i figure out the chassis electrical i will start on the engine electrical, and then once i have it all figured out, and placed, i will start repairing / replacing most of the underhood 'cloth' style wire.
BTW, i hate electrical, but i dont know why, its not really all too hard.

Thats SSSSSWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTT!!!!!!!
Got that while I was watching Mr. Brooks last night. Highly recommend that movie. So now it runs, electrical works, wipers work a little too well, now all you need is that dang driveshaft, fuel system, and about $1000 in parts right?
