Performance Chips

What do people know about performance chips.... are they worth the 250 they cost or would I just be blowing money...? Let me know your experience with them

I use to have a tahoe and the chip never work I dont feel any diference before and after

I had a chip in both my old trucks. Could I feel a difference? Maybe, the main reason I got it was to reprogram the computer for things like headers, tire size calculations, speedo corrections, things like that. In my opinion your money can be spent on much better things, chips really only make a difference if you are reprogramming it to do something other then advance the timing, such as major engine tuning, adding a supercharger, or modifications... otherwise, put the money towards something else that would actually make a difference.

I tried to give grumpy a pringles but he didnt want it, and 300 bucks for one chip for a whopping 20- 30 hp plus another 300 to tune it,

buying a chip for your truck is like picking out the right condom. If you buy a chip that is way too big for what you have, its useless, the truck will not have enough balls..hahaha...to fully take advantage of the chip.

I dont own anything EFI or computered, but finding the chip to go along with a stock truck, or a truck with headers and an intake, or a diesel that is nitrous injected running 24lbs of boost with 35" tires....is pretty important,

The chips ive done on other peoples trucks have pretty much gone along the lines of "to obtain the maximum performance from this chip the manufacturer recommends air intake, modded exhaust, headers, aftermarket intake or EFI and injectors...etc"

The more performance modifications a truck has, the better it will respond to a chip, usually...

Ive noticed some big insane increases from the programmers versus just a chip.

yea but they ask for all those mods because the chip dont work if you install headers intakes and all that crap thats what gives you the extra power no the chip

most chips you can get custom programmed, Troyer Performance is the company that programmed mine. They take the standard engine codes, special program it to compensate for the changes like the headers, free-flow cats, supercharger, tire size, gear size, etc. calculations so it really is designed for your truck, not just for your stock engine.

I haven't chipped either of my trucks so I can't attest to those... But I chipped my CRX a few years back and it made a HUGE difference... I do feel that its also a matter of buying the right chip for the job too though... Not all chips are created equal...

queenie is chipped....but i didn't do it so i have no idea the before/after effects....i do get really good gas milage for a fsb so that might be it....

I agree crx's get great on gas to start off with then when i chiped my blk one OMG the gas was even better but the same chip in the focus did squat so you want to do your background info into each chip....

honestly I thought about it, but the second I picked the chip up it crumbled into a bunch if little microchips and I had to get a vaccuum by then, was hungry too :popcorn:

I was thinking abotu crying and how if i did it youd be worried and knowing someone would worry about me if i cried made me so depressed then i went and beat up a 13 year old and stole his emo music and then kickd his dad in the ear and made him buy me an MP3 layer to listen to it on and i got so depressed aboyt bobbi worring about my if i cried that a started to break down so i went and got a tub ot ben n jerries chunky monkey to go home and siton the couch and eat it so id feel better but i was out of spoosn so i had to eat it with a fork and it was working well and making me not so emo depressed that a was feelin a little better then on eth 17th bite i stabbed the fork into the roof of my mouth and it hurt so much it made me cry.

That is my one sentence about this topic.
