For those who weren't there, I grenaded my 1350 last weekend at Slaughterhouse Gulch, either hopped the chain or blew the output shaft, so now I'm in search of a new one. Going to the junkyard this weekend to pull another one, and have a couple of questions:
-Anything I should lookout for when pulling the unit?
-Should I install a slip yoke eliminator in the new TC, or doesn't the 1350 need one?
Going to redo the seals before I install it. I'll also crack the case to make sure everything's good inside and swap out any bad parts prior to installation.

That's the beauty of those Ford t/cases....................they already installed it for you.

If you could find a manual 1354, throw that in. Although they are like gold.
I was talking to Rich about about your transfer case, from the sounds of it, you might have had a defect in it. I have never heard of one of those failing like that. I know a guy that lives near the Con and he is running two stock ranger cases back-to-back and breaking Dana 60 and 70 shafts with them.

I know, a 1354 would be cool, but I can find 1350s all over the place, so that's what I'll go with. They're strong enough for the wheeling I do.
I'm thinking the same thing. The unit is 24 years old and never properly maintained. PLus whenI had the tranny rebuilt the TC was making a grinding/clinking noise in the front output that could have also helped make it fail. Either way, guess I'll be under the truck this weekend.

Update: Its not the TC, I blew the rear gear set. Just drained the diff, chunks came out. I'll get some pics when I pull the cover off and post them, this should be funnny. Off to 4WP in the a.m. to schedule my warranty work!
damn that has to suck. i remember hearing a loud bang when you were trying to get up that rough hill.

Update 2: I didn't blow the gear set either, I blew the Auburn clutches! Starting another thread about what to replace it with.
