For summer/late summer time frame.
Spring Creek (http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=36)
Holy Cross (http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=11)
Iron Chest (http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=8)
These trails are rated at 8. The ratings can be decieving because Chinamans is rated an 8 but it can done by stockers because of the bypasses.
There are only two Spring Creek bypasses, one of them is easy but the other one is pretty tough. Starkman (Rich) took his Ranger there last year in stock form. He had to be tugged up one obstacle but did the rest on his own. He did receive body damage during that run more than once. It's pretty tough trail & not very forgiving. A stocker can do it as Rich proved but you'll need to be willing to accept body damage and undercarriage damage if you run this trail.
Holy Cross has no bypasses. The lower parts of the trail is fun, a couple challenges but nothing too tough. The real fun starts as you get near French Creek, it has boulders to crawl over. My truck slid off a boulder there last year & that's how I bent my rock slider...................I didn't slide over it, the truck dropped hard & fast on it. From French Creek on up, it's definetly not for stockers & tires less than 33" if you run this trail.
Iron Chest has no bypasses. The boulder garden is only about a half mile long, but what a bumpy-ass half mile it is. The rocks/boulders in the garden range from a diameter of around 6" to 2.5 feet. It has torn up driveshafts & diff covers & tie rods & drag links, & track bars in just that half mile. You'll definetly need ground clearance for this trail & tires no less than 33". After the boulder garden, it's just bumpy but no big boulders to climb over. It's great at the top but just remember that you have to go back through the boulders on your way out. I would not suggest a stocker or near stocker rig if you run this trail.
On the 3 trails above, a tight limited slip or a locker will give you a nice advantage because there's several spots on each trail that will leave you 3 Wheeling unless you have flex like Diggers Ranger or a nice rock buggy.
Vote in the poll for your choice of which trail to run. Even if you feel your rig might not be up to the task yet, you might have plans for lifting, etc, before then so it might be ready by the the trail run(s). The time frame I'm thinking of is..........
7/21
7/22
7/28
7/29
8/11
8/12
8/26
If you wanna go but don't wanna take your rig, somebody might have an open seat. The only open seat I'll have is if I run Iron Chest, my wife says she'll NEVER go on that trail again. She's scared of heights & there's a long section of narrow road past timberline that's around 1500 feet almost straight down right at the edge of the trail. But she'll be riding with me at Holy Cross & Spring Creek.
Please post any suggestions, comments, etc.
Please discuss :D
