View Full Version : So I'm in West Texas...
...and I'm pretty happy I don't live here. Not that it's a horrible, God-forsaken place, but it's not one I'd care to live in either. I'm down here working on a video for the state about weather modification (cloud seeding). Anyway, heat, humidity, wind, BIG bugs, unhealthy food (I think they fry salad here) and trucks are the mainstays in this place. Okay, so the trucks are good, everything else - not so much.
Anyway, I'm here through Tuesday or Wednesday of next week and trying not to pick up a drawl. ;) Fortunately the office I'm working out of has wireless broadband access, so that part's good and I'll continue to check-in here as much as I can...

Be honest. I know for a fact that West Texas is a horrible god forsaken place. Especially when you have to wait out a blizzard for 3 days in Lubbock.

Wait a min... You're bitching about fried salad... Fried foods and now salad... Your old favorite and your new favorite... How can you be complaining abou that???

I can only imagine the misery. :P No, it's really not that bad here - the people are friendly at least. But again, it's not a place I'd want to live (or even visit for more than a week or so)! LOL
As for the idea of fried salad, I'm not a health nut or anything now, but that's just a nasty thought. Well, time to go and shoot some video now...

I've ventured into West Tex a few times for work. Try installing a series of highway signs next to a feed lot when it is 100 degrees. Of course I've done that in CO. and NM. as well, but Tex cows just seem to smell worse. LOL...

By "feed lot," are you referring to the local restaurant? LOL. J/K Yes, they do possess their own unique "aroma," that's for sure. Yesterday, however, the worst smell by far came from the petroleum plant I passed while riding my bike - ugh! I tried to hold my breath as long as possible, but pedaling up a hill, that wasn't very long. :( I do enjoy the sense of humor here though. A bit from the local paper:
"If you support the character and policies of George W. Bush, please drive with your headlights ON during the day. If you support the policies and character of John Kerry, please drive with your headlights OFF at night."
Okay, okay, poor taste I know (and I'm not a big Bush fan anyway), but it is kinda funny... :D
Just got back in town last night - good to be back in "civilization" again! :P No, it actually wasn't that bad and I did get a couple long rides in. Here's some of the early morning West Texas scenery (it was actually somewhat chilly!):

Power lines and oil wells. You call that scenery?

LOL, you catch on quickly... And yet it is "scenic" in its own, very special way.

I had the great fortune of driving through central and west Texas last summer during July. It was flat, dusty, windy, and hot. I had a great time.
