So one of my old H.S. buddies is a die hard Jeep owner and says that i'm full of sh!t in saying that jeeps are weak and over rated. He sent me an e-mail in response to the picture of Jesse and LT's recovery operation that said "alright man the whole jeeps are weak thing kinda gay concidering jeep wrote the book on four wheel drive ill take u guys to dead horse gulch in salida where there is some REAL four wheelin and we'll see about the whole ford jeep thing and by the way that ass drivin the jeep tell him he has a roll cage for a reason to roll on it tieing yourself down so u dont flip just goes to show u let money get in the way of fun....roll it, flip it, start it, DO IT AGAIN!!!"
Who wants to help me stand up for the non "elitist, snob-nosed, stuck up"-Larry wheelers and oh, maybe to this dead horse gulch (according to what I'm seeing rated easy) with him and make him cry??? Larry? Jesse? Rich? James? LT? Anyone?

Well Chucky???.........................................
Seeing as how I've been "Snobbed" by Jeepers out on the trails, I would want to tell him all kinds of things. But I won't because a built 4x4 is just that............A built 4x4. when they start spewing that crap, I just keep a low profile & keep my mouth shut. I let my truck & driving skills do the talking for me.
Out of all the Jeepers I've met in lots of places, I can honestly say that 90% of them were downright snobs while 10% were actually good, all-around off road enthusiasts. In my opinion (take it with a grain of salt), those 90% are either..................choose one.......
(a) Ignorant
(b) Uneducated on the abilities of any built 4x4
(c) They have an infererority complex which results in them dogging on all 4x4's that do not bear the Jeep emblem
(d) They have a superiority complex which results in them dogging on all 4x4's that do not bear the Jeep emblem
(e) All of the above
Me personally, I won't get in a pissing match with snobs like that. That also includes the people that think Fords or Chevrolets or Chryslers or Toyotas or whatever are the best things out there. I've worked on vehicles for a living since '82............that's plenty long enough to know that every auto manufacturer make pieces of shit because they all break at some point.
I ran into several of those kinds of folks at the Old Farts Run a few weeks ago (but that's another story) so it just reasurred me that there are still a bunch of snobs out there, they only want to associate with their own kind it seems (after that weekend anyway).
That's one of the things I love about this site, yeah, it's a Ford site, but there's no discrimination against what anybody drives or wheels. Of course the friendly razzing will always happen...........it's all in good fun. (the old farts run was not friendly razzing........there was nothing friendly about it but that's my issue I have to deal with). So, of course I will not attend the CO4x4 Rally in Salida in late June / early July. I don't want my daughter & wife subjected to ridicule for that extended weekend. I'll be damned if build a Jeep just so I can fit in with certain wheelers.
So tell your buddy to get a clue. Everything has their good points & bad points.

Well spoken, and I'm not in a who's better match, i'm only giving in to it as a joke. I don't appreciate the ridicule from other 4 wheelers, and thats why on the trail I don't put them down. I've known Sean for 4 years now and we've had these debates for that time frame, kinda a no harm no foul deal. I posted to see what opinons were and all that. Sean's a good guy, gives me crap bout driving a Ford, but thats about it. I give him crap for driving a Jeep.
I've been exploring other clubs and i really don't see the brotherhood that we have here. Maybe we're just spoiled in we've made this place what it is.
Sean's got a pretty sweet Jeep though, and he uses it quite frequently. One of these days i might have him come with us, just for the fun of it.
Like I said, i just wanted to see what the opinions of the other were... i was also extremely bored at the time and took up the opportunity to amuse myself for a few.

On the same vein as Larry, it all boils down to that loose nut behind the wheel. Ya'll talk about "the pit" out by Buckley: I've seen a Plymouth mini van driving around out there...and he was lookin for ME! LOL

I only have one friend that owns a jeep, hes actually a ford guy and works at predator off road in colo springs lol that whole "mine is better than anything else" is all along the lines of the inability to comprehend the reality that each and every vehicle out there has good and bad points, being a mechanic since the late 80s myself I have learned the same as warlord as well, they all break at one time or another, lots of dedication to my fords because I have one thats lasted forever without any modifications (due to well maintenance) and its been hard miles no babying it, rolled jumped and hauled a lot of times, I myself will never have a use for a jeep, I cant even fit a table saw in the back nor can I haul my cars to the track with one, I can take grumpy on trail runs all day long though. his springs are worn out after half mil miles on em, I really like this forum because of how friendly everyone is.
I like to make comments now and then which is in a joking manner, but I dont mean any harm unless im feeling under attack. I learned alot of ppl on internet actually will be that way because they cant say them things in public to someone.
another good point about RMFT as a club, I noticed you guys dont worry about the matching jackets and want huge fees like all the mustang clubs around here.
I better stop im babbling on now

I would definately say that all vehicles are junk! ;)
I drive Fords because I have my whole life. I was a Chevy kid, I wanted a Monza so bad when they came out....:o
What I love to do is fire a guy up that says he has the best and everything else is junk. Then watch as he either trashes his stuff or lives up to his talk. Most of the time parts are broke. I have a Ford buddie that acts like that and over and over again he is shown different. He tells me a story about his 69 F150 2wd shortbed that he put a very built 428CJ. He claims the truck weighed 3000 lbs and it would do wheel stands. No doubt it was fast but the 428 weighs 1000 lbs!
In closing I will say that there will aways be someone who will outspend you to be faster, go futher or whatever. I have fun (it does make me envious) doing what I'm at the level I'm at. Of course the truck will never be done.

I'd say back when I was wheeling regularly... it depended what trails you did really. If you did a truly difficult trail, you'd generally run into knowledgable, experienced four-wheelers (or you'd be stuck behing teh dame group of assholes, tossing out their beer cans and flooring it to get through obstacles, damn the trail damage), whereas if you did a moderate trail there was a lot of the dicks that had a jeep that they put a lift and big tires and a winch bumper on, and their penis grew 4" along with their lift. There was plenty of people that used to give the old "you can't four-wheel an explorer", oh yeah? Watch me...
But theres a lot of shops that are the same way. Wilderness Off-road in Littleton seemed of the opinion that if it wasn't a jeep, it just wasn't worth their time.

We(Larry and I) ran into some decent guys in some XJ's last year on Holy Cross. I was having some major carb issues trying to get out of French Creek and when I said I was gonna park the Ranger and ride with Jason, They wanted me to keep trying(they were really cool about waiting). The last Chinamans I did with RMFTC we had some jerks come up behind us on the S curves that just had to get around us, because they had to get back to town(why did you come wheeling if you had a time limit).
I don't care what you drive. If you have a lifted GEO Metro and want to come wheel with me thats fine(I will pick on you though). We all are out there to have a good time, and you don't know who might have the part that keeps you from walking to the parts store(some U-joints are used on many different makes of vehicles for example, and I carry 3 or 4 with me all the time). Be decent and I will probably give you the parts if they will work. Be a jerk and it will be a long day of walking for you...............

true true. Lesson learned: While I've had a bad experience with jeep owners, it's not about what you drive, its about who you are as an individual... applies to more than wheeling. I would like to apologize if anyone read me as this asshole... most of you know me, so i hope you don't view me as that. Now, who's ready for some wheelin'?

I did a search for another thread at the Cherokee forum turned up this page:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/jeep_man/bantam.htm
Look at the pic of the entries from Bantam, Willys Overland and Ford. The Ford built vehicle was designated GPW...geee peee double-u. "Jeep" was a slang term long before it was a trade name. I heard this on The History Channel, the observation is not my own.
Next time you give him crap send the link and tell him "Ford's yer daddy now...GeeP-boy!" He has probably already heard "I got yer Jeep thang, now it burns when I pee!" OK, I'm done being an asshole...

And as far as the jeeps go..... I hang out at my buddies shop Off Road Innovations (ORI BROOMFIELD) a lot. I would say 90% of the other guys who hang out there also drive jeeps. Yet heres the thing. THEY DONT BRAGG.... Not like this kid least. Their cool. Reson why I love the shop. When I roll up your actully almost always gonna find a huge rig in one of the bays. Yesterday there was a K5. Darren is a awsome guy and yet at the same time the smack talk NEVER goes down at the shop unless we're talking who can drink who under the table or who biffed the night before. Kinda like this club. A close kinship. If you need help or anything you can always ask someone at the shop. Darren's always willing to help to.
That jeep owner has no balls to talk smack with out looking at both sides of the argument.
I race a ford focus.... and I know i am in it for riddacul cause the sheer fact when you seen a tuned fukis you see the zx3's or the zx5's but i race a 4 door zx4. Yes the owner of the car has done a poor temp set up but just you wait.... I already have 90% of the parts sitting in the garage waiting for the owner to come home from iraq.
So dissin is not limited to JUST rigs. In the race scen I swear by mopar. I was raised in a mopar garage. Daddy had a 69 charger r/t. Mom had a 71 nova. I had a 81 ram. We run a converted 89 s10 blazer (www.rodster.com) and shes got balls. So smack is something I am used to. I roll up to the line in my ram and ppl are like awww how cute she's trying to race her truck..... Then I smoke the 4 banger honda with my 426 hemi or damn near scare them if they dont get outta my way by trying to crawl over them......
I tend to just let my driving and odd ball skills do the talking. Or be like Hypoid and have REAL facts that back my mouth up or least look at BOTH sides of the argument.
Just remember this.....
FIGHTING ONLINE IS LIKE WINING THE SPEACHIAL OPLYMIPICS NOT MATTER IF yOU WIN YOUR STILL RETARED!!
I am done for now.... back to nappy time.
I can't say anything that hasn't been already said. The one thing that I have learned on the trails is no matter what they drive, the more they talk smack, the more likely you're gunna be pulling them off the trail. (its like a bar fight, fear the quiet one). Like what was said before. The rig is only part of the equation. It matters more on how the driver handles the piece of crap
Just my 2 cents

If anyone is interested I get free Banimere tickets to the Wednesday night Test and Tunes from our Sheriff Office. They are part of the "Take it to the track" program the State Patrol sponsors. I usally get a stack of tickets that are good for admission. I ran my Mustang there last year and laid down some smoken 15.30 second runs. ;) Maybe we could do a meet and greet night up there.

That's cool, a friend of mine back in the day had a 69 F150 shortbed with a 428 CJ in it. It was cool when I would put it on a super heavy trailer and pull it with my 73 Bronco. The F150 alone weighed more than the Bronc. It was very interesting. I will look you up next time I'm up on the hill.
