Hi, My name is Chuck, and I'm a myspace and RMFTC addict
http://www.myspace.com/chucks_page
This whole myspace thing I dont really understand. Its definatly a yonger thing and I dont understand, but also at the same time I dont want a whole lot of info on the net about me, though I'm slowly giving in.
I guess I just dont like it cause of the bad rap it gets with the child predator stuff. I've banned it from my kids at my house. I dont want to hear the argument well they could get it else where. I trust them enough and have shown them enough that I think they dont use it. Maybe nieve on my part.
My 11 YO received a post from someone who was 3 times his age, and saying stuff I REALLY didnt want him to hear or see. It was more adult oriented. That was before I changed his settings, and one of the reasons why I topped letting them go there.

I don't get it either. I hate it, I made a profile, but never log on at all. All the stupid fucking bands that peddle their crap music on their make me want to hunt them down and gut them like fish.

I don't accept just any e-mail on it or accept anyone else unless i know who they are, where they're from and so forth. A lot of it is judgement. If i go off and don't protect myself, yeah i'll get hurt, like the stories. I use it with a ton of caution, just like i use the RMFTC forums with caution. just my:twocents:. It's an easy way to contact people, but i use my e-mail more to contact people. Essentially for me, its a networking ordeal.
It has had a bad rap but with the amount I have moved in the last couple of years it has helped me out with staying in contact with people.

:puke: thanks big brother....ok I know ur a dad and I might change how I feel about this when I have kids but one of the biggest freedoms I believe in is being able to see and percieve whatever information is out there. At 11 your son should know what he is able to handle, I made it real clear to my parents that I did not want them dictating how I handled myself in the world, they had up untill I had free will to shape my personality, after that it was up to me. I see more and more parents/educators/government trying to shape kids into what they want as opposed to providing guidance and a basic framwork for the kid to grow into.
Why stop your son from experiencing the real world? he has to know that there are ppl out there that think differently from the way he was raised and has to learn how to deal with it. I think we all would be much better off if we were more accepting of other....personalities?....and let ppl become who they were meant to be....
Sorry thats my :twocents: .....freedom of information anyone?

to each his own. this debate could go nowhere, so we might as well kill it now. we know all our views, and they mean a lot to both sides of the arguement, so lets put it to bed guys.
ok you can make fun of me now!

Fat little bald guys don't usually have enough friends to have to bother with things like Myspace. I just stick to leaving sarcastic comments on forums. :)

I did it to keep in touch with people from high school. I don't spend more then 15 minutes/month on it, but I have been surprised by the people that have reappeared after not seeing them for so long. Especially the ones that live here in town.

I've got one for my band. well former band, i've got a new thing going now, but it's a great way to keep in touch with other music types and get gigs, find people to jam with ect. i don't think i would bother with a personal one.

The wife set one up for us (as a family) and used it to contact some old out of touch friends. No biggie there.
BUT... the other day I was noticing a doll page that my daughter was using... Very innocent site about paper dolls, but it had a chat bar with discussions flowing through it. My daughter paid no attention to it, but I started checking it out when she left the computer on that page. Some VERY shady conversations there, considering the target demographic was 8-14yr old young ladies. it was VERY obvious that there were some seriously adult themes rolling through their chat session, and my BTMFD detector was pinging like mad.
Blocked the site, and sent a very strong email to the site owner. As well as to a couple of agencys that moniter that crap. Get rid of that kind of communication and it would have been innocent fun on the web, but their inclusion of the chat bar gave perfect access to a 'targeted' demographic. Fork that.

Myspace is awesome! I can't count how many times that website kept me busy at night when I worked at IBM and when there was nothing to do. I have also ran into some old friends that I lost contact with. Also found others that I never thought were smart enough to use a computer. LOL
I am at http://www.myspace.com/burg460 and yes mine is private (as I have my reasons)
