Went to Carnage with a group from www.colorado4x4.org (http://www.colorado4x4.com)
It was packed, easily over 20 rigs, mostly Jeeps. I think Rich (Starkman) and I were the only non-Jeeps there. By the way Rich nice to meet you and talk with ya!

I'll post up mainly Rich and I, the rest can be seen on my Supermotors page.

Those last two pictures...yes I am stuck. Ask Rich, it was a hairy spot. Anyways that spot also broke me.
Here is what happened...

Yes the rear differential cover got peeled back on that spot. The good news is the housing is fine, not bashed up or anything. The bad news is one bolt's head was sheared off, and the rest of the bolt is in the hole...that is going to be bad. Anybody know how to get that out or is willing to help?

Really it wasn't all that fun...we will have a RMFTC outing that will move faster than the speed of smell like this one did. And next time I'm running Lefthand, Carnage owned me.

Gunner, looks like you were getting hung up in some of the same spots (truckwise) i got hung up on Chinaman in November. Sorry I would have gone today if my money wasn't so tight and the fact that i have 1/4 tank of gas to last me until friday. Woulda loved to tackle that woth you guys, beat the Bronco up and enjoyed myself. Rich, the Ranger looks bad ass bro, can't wait to see it up close. Next weekend i have to run down to the Springs to help a friend get her stuff outta storage, but (weather and everyones schedules permitting) lets hit Lefthand 2 Sundays from now (march 11th). I'm anxcious to get back out

I'm down then...should have the cover replaced.

I used this run as a suspension shake down.

I AM SOOOOO HAPPY. I drove through most obstacles with no problems. Well there was the one that Gunner got stuck on, I backed into a tree with the tail light. :( I still don't have the ARB in the front working. I will have it very soon. My sliders worked perfect too. I posted some pics in my photo galley. Check out the new flex. You may notice the lens....http://www.rmftc.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=646&cat=539

its ok, mine's sitting in front of the house sulking because 1) she hasn't seen a trail since november and 2) all the snowbanks are gone so she can't flex on them anymore. Like i said, i'm down for a run Sunday the 11th

Gunner, change your link to www.colorado4x4.org. The current link goes to a mechanic's web page.

Gunner, how'd you get off hte trail with no diff fluid? Or did you just limp it back or what?
As for the bolt that got sheared off, the only thing I can think of is once the cover is completely off you might be able to grab onto with some locking pliers or something, those generally aren't very torqued, as I recall the torque spec on differential bolts is like 15 ft pounds or something around there.
Also, if you can't get it out, from what I've found from experience with my explorer, you can run it just fine without one bolt, even if it is the lowest one. Just make sure when you put the diff cover back on you use lots of the black permatex stuff... last time I sealed up my diff I did two thin beads, one on the inside of the rim, one on the outside, plus a thin bead around each of the bolt holes, and make sure all the other bolts get on nice and tight, and you should be fine.

I have an set of "easy outs" or something to that effect that I purchased at sears and the one time I've had to use them they actually worked really well...

I think Easy-Outs will be my best bet, but going to try several things today and tomorrow. Already got a new cover ordered from Summit, and when the cash gets more plentiful I will get a rock guard for the rear.

Matt-It was still leaking 3 hours after I did it, there was a lot in there. I just limped it off the trail to the bottom, took off the rear DS and drove it to my G/F's parent's house off Hygiene Road and had AAA tow it to FOCO. Also I was thinking about just leaving it in and sealing it up good like you said. But I'd at least like to try to get it out because having that bolt gone will constantly be on my mind when I am out wheeling.

For how hard I hit and how badly it scraped all over I think I got off easy. My gas tank was resting on a rock too, and my transfer case was damn close to being dinged. I could have done a lot more damage on that trail.

Gunner, you think you'd be fine on LHC? i was looking at pics of it, i saw a couple spots those of us in the fat trucks would have trouble on it, but i say its worth a shot. You said you came close to your transfer case, how is that possible with the big ass skid plate covering it? I know i was balancing on it over Chinaman and dented it a bit, but i still have room to play between the case and the plate.

Just never sure how destroyed that guard will get and crush the T-case with it. BTW...I just got the bolts out, found there were 2 broken off, but one was at the top and wasn't a result of the wheeling. Ended up using a punch and a hammer and spinning them out...took less than 20 minutes. Now I'm just waiting on Summit to get me my stuff.

And yes, I think I can run LHC...its only a 3/10...and I think Carnage is a 7/10.

BTW...Rich were you a lucky one who made it to the top?

Easy outs work best, if your lucky the left handed drill bits pull the bolt out and easy out dont even get used

Nice pics. Who has the other white ranger?

I can't remenber his name. He got all the mods done at a shop called Silver State. That truck is pretty much the same setup as yours. D44 front and 9" rear with the rest stock. He talked of backhalfing it and installing a 4 link.

I need a drivers side rear taillight, you have one to sell? :p

Also, I am looking for a set of stock spring shackles if anyone has some.

I didn't make it to the top. Not because I couldn't but because the last 40 feet was a two track glare ice trail. People where not making it and sliding all the way back down. There are some videos on their site. My friend Tom and I watched them winch each other up the hill at 30 minutes each. I figured since we where the 7th in line we would be all night so we and two others turned around and went back. It was the most fun of the day. Hope to do that trail again when we can do it at our pace.

See ya soon.

I dunno if I'm ready to go after Carnage again. Not only did I bust up the rear, but I found the front is leaking now a little bit, very slowly. Let me gather the funds for some more protection and I'm ready! The heater core decided to develop a leak too...this damn thing.

It's a Bronco!!! My heater core has slowly been on its way out and my power steering pump has a hairline crack in it and leaks a bottle a month of p/s fluid. Oh and my serpantine belt is cracked (monday fix) and i get to redo the $500 front end repair again this spring (last spring i did it as well). But hey, there's a reason we drive Bronco's

Luckily though, most parts are cheap and easy to come by. The heater core will only be about $25. What $500 front end repair are you doing? I hope it isn't the same one I have to do!

last year i had to replace the upper and lower ball joints and camber bushings, and re-align the front end. could've done it cheaper, but i needed it in 48 hrs and didnt wanna mess with it
