I can't beleive how much Courtesy Ford  wants to replace these things!

I don't, but I know of an '03 you could buy for parts, then any time anything went out, you could just pull it.

I assume you are talking about the ignition coils. I've never really looked under the hood of those trucks, but aside from being a real pain in the ass to get to it should be a fairly simple job.

From what I understand .. a HUGE pain in the arse to get to. You have to take all the fuel lines loose ... about 3 swivels and 16" of extensions ... I may be overexaggerating ..

but everywhere I've read .. they say the first time you do it .. put aside 5 hours and a case of beer.

I've got the beer .. but not the 5 hours to spare on MY day off ! LOL

Dave, I've had all the coils out... there not THAT bad though they are kind of a bitch. why are you looking to get to them though? Change spark plugs or what?

I already had the plugs done a couple weeks ago *at Courtesy Ford* UGH! ... they also replaced 1 coil at the same time (they said it had crapped out) .. well this morning .. I started her up .. and blub blub blub .. engine was misfiring and the 'service engine light' came on .. from what I understand .. it's gotta be another coil ..

so .... I'd like to find someone to do the other 7 coils for a good price and call it done!

I can help you, but I doubt you need to replace all 7, might be something else causing the service engine light. Aren't those coils like $60 a piece? No reason to spend money if you don't have to. I can hook my laptop up to your truck and find out what the check engine means. If nothing else you can pinpoint which one is causing the problem and replace just that one.

Well .. since I already took it in 3 weeks ago for this issue .. I called them and they told me to bring it in for a free diagnostics ... I'll decide what I wanna do after they pinpoint the problem.

I'll letcha know!

What program do you run on your lappy to check the codes Matt?

obd-2.com I think is the place I got the software. It's cheap, but does the trick.

Alllll righty then ...

Courtesy Ford came back and told me according to their diagnostics 2 more coils have gone bad .. #5 & #6. 3 weeks ago I had them replace 8 plugs and the #7 coil.

long story short .. my truck will be done in about an hour.

however .. in my search for maybe getting a better price on the work I found this place :

http://trkstop.com/ on Broadway ..

real nice guys ! they just opened up shop and are looking for clients ...

Matt ! you may want to see if you could hook up some club privileges through these guys .. they seem hungry for business !

Thanks for all the input guys ..

next time .. I'm doing this myself ! uhgggh!

That seems "odd" to have that many coils go bad... coils should last the life of the vehicle, hypothetically... I think they screwed something up and there not telling you.
